I want a really stylish (leather?) laptop rucksack. Any recommendations?

I am self employed and go into some quite swanky businesses still carrying my uni laptop back (battered, enormous - from the days of massive laptops - stained, now bit ripped..its dying a death.)

I would like a grown up version of this bag to match my wonderful job! I have no idea where to start. I love my ugly bag because it is very padded with a velcro strap inside the laptop pocket to hold it in and is really roomy and waterproof.

Has anyone seen anything like this that is also very nice looking and handbaggy? Preferably in leather? I looked at Knomo which is nice but slightly too pricey.

Thank you!

I bought this one from the men's department at John Lewis www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-partners-oslo-leather-backpack/p3999391 - I wanted something very plain and quite large. But, if you want something a bit more handbaggy, some of their womens ones are possibly a better fit? like this? www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-partners-leather-alina-backpack-black/p5703598

Thanks @Snailhaterz2 - I prefer the look of the women’s one but the straps being that narrow would kill my shoulders. Does the men’s one have a strap to hold the laptop down in its sleeve? Like if you turned the bag upside down would it hold it in? I can’t see that on the description. That’s one of my favourite features of ugly Gigantobag.

Anyone else know of anything?

I know you said leather, but I have a couple of the Mia tui sydney bags.

They're vegan leather, very comfortable to wear, come in a range of colours, have lots of pockets and there's often a discount voucher knocking around.

I got my bf this one and he loves it. Very roomy and comfortable on shoulders!

AtLeastPretendToCare · 21/10/2021 14:26

Moleskin do a few nice leather ones which I’ve had before.

Tish008 · 21/10/2021 14:31

This one can be converted to multiple styles

I wouldn't want to be going into a 'swanky' business with a Mia Tui rucksack. I got caught out by all these threads recommending and bought one - admittedly I bought in stone colour - and it is so cheap looking I don't even use it on dog walks.

I think the canvas straps on this will be too informal for you, but if you want a temporary stand in while you find a perfect leather one, then I really like these. I can wear mine all day despite bad back. They have a padded bit for laptop.

ZealAndArdour · 21/10/2021 14:46

I get a lot of targeted advertising for “organisation” type back packs.

I keep having my head turned by this one from Stackers, but it’s a faux saffiano rather than leather. Thought I’d mention it anyway; stackers.com/black-backpack?gclid=CjwKCAjwn8SLBhAyEiwAHNTJbbLRd2GnR9NHTbvI7KikQhH52-4DAGcTC6S7EEOS9G5HgcCbBDtFfRoCFaIQAvD_BwE

Second Senreve. I love mine.

aftonwater · 21/10/2021 14:48

I have a Rains backpack which I love. It's not leather but it is waterproof and I like the straightforward design.

Rains

That Senreve one is lovely, but the price… Shock

workagain · 21/10/2021 15:56

I have a yellow Mia tui sydney and people keep presuming it's expensive - maybe because of the colour? 🤷‍♂️.

But each to their own Smile

I have a few bags from Matt Fothergill, including a cow hair rucksack (small). They're fantastic quality and you can choose the size, colour, lining and hardwear:

Matt Fothergill is really good if you want a hand-crafted aesthetic.

At the other extreme you really cannot beat Tumi for well thought out longevity. I have one of their leather laptop bags that must now be ~15 years old. They also do rucksacks - admittedly at a price... uk.tumi.com/stanton-stanton-gemma-backpack--black/135778-1041.html?cgid=backpacks_all-backpacks

PersephoneJames · 21/10/2021 18:19

Thanks so much! Nothing quite right but lots of ideas. The senreve would be it but if I had that money it’d be gone on a holiday!

I love the look of the stackers and I’m not averse to faux leather as long as it’s sturdy and waterproof but my laptops a 15 inch one so it wouldn’t fit.

I’m the eastpak one is the right level of practicality but I like the more structured looking ones.

That Rains one is lovely actually, I wasn’t expecting to like it so much!

TK Maxx often have Knomo bags. Obviously a bit hit and miss but might be worth a quick look if you have one nearby.

PersephoneJames · 22/10/2021 12:13

I do have a TK maxx but mine is rubbish and never has anything nice! I'll keep popping in though.

Does anyone have any experience of Nordace?

this one looks really good although not leather I think looks quite grown up!

I know a couple of people who have that bag and really rave about it

Inthesameboatatmo · 22/10/2021 12:33

Alices wonders do good backpacks.

Changes17 · 22/10/2021 12:41

I am you (self-employed, rubbish bags) and I got this one: www.fossil.com/en-gb/products/parker-convertible-backpack/ZB1515200.html

And I love it. It's very roomy, has enough separate compartments that I can fit everything in without losing it but not so many you can't fit big things in the main compartment. I've even been away overnight for work and fitted everything - including a 13 in MacBook (though I had to take it out of its case). Took quite a minimalist approach to packing though!

Was a bit more expensive than was planning but there are various discounts available on the website, eg sign up to the newsletter.
Plus I was taking the approach of buy once and never buy again.

Changes17 · 22/10/2021 12:42

I was also thinking about getting a Bellroy bag. But the fact I could see it for myself in a shop tipped it for this one.
