Children in hair salon

I've booked a hair appointment this Sunday for highlights but just looked on their website and didn't notice when I visited the hair salon but they have a children's play area there for kids. They expect kids not to wander etc and for parents to keep an eye on kids (said on website) but I'm not overly keen on visiting and having screeching kids nearby whilst I'm trying to relax.

What would you do? Check if kids will be there and take a chance if not? Or cancel and go to a salon (lots in the area) which doesn't have childcare area in salon. Another salon I know (slightly too far) has childcare room (with carer) outside main salon area which I always preferred when I lived there.

Good idea for people with small kids but it would drive me mad. I'd go somewhere else.

I'd go somewhere else personally.

I think if it bothers you enough to post on MN about it, then you should book elsewhere.
When pregnant yet childfree, I was having my hair done and my hairdresser had to tell kids to stop running around as the chemicals in the hair dye etc could be harmful. The mother (fancy city) was not supervising her kids.
I feel sorry for the hairdressers in this scenario and am not surprised they have 'an area' for kids.

I'm only posting about this here to ask opinions as I literally only just saw this on the website (and on their online booking page).

The salon doesn't seem to market itself as 'child friendly'.

I think I'll check just in case (it's a Sunday early afternoon appointment) and if there are kids there will just find another salon.

I wouldn't dream of going there. Sounds like a recipe for a nightmare for everyone (and a potential legal / health and safety grey area).

There's not going to be loads of kids unless it's a soft play centre with adjoining salon or something bizarre.

DameMaureen · 20/10/2021 16:23

Oh God no way would I go . Mind you adults can be annoying too like the woman on a day off from work today who spent the whole of her pedicure time calling people up 🙄

Its the kind of thing I'd get childcare for and try to enjoy a but so I wouldn't want other people's kids messing around. I don't get how you'd actually supervise your child while you're having your hair done to be honest.

Yes, but how do you know how many kids will be there?

It actually says for parents to keep an eye on their kids when they're there due to chemicals etc so there must have been issues before and sorry but I don't want a child screaming/crying etc or running around while the parent smiles benevolently on.

I've rebooked somewhere else.
