I'm fed up of cold ankles but don't like skinnies and boots. Tell me what to wear!

Just that really! I've loved the casual vibe of loose rolled up jeans with trainers or flip flops over the summer but it's getting too cold for that now.

I have to be smart-ish for work but I'm really not a fan of skinnies and boots. What else can I wear that'll keep me warm?

Dresses.... with tights!

SalsaLove · 18/10/2021 22:25

Nothing? Except thick tights and trousers.

londonmummy1966 · 18/10/2021 22:28

3/4 length wide legs, knee length warm socks and chelsea boots?

Cactu · 18/10/2021 22:39

Looser leg jeans that reach to top of an ankle boot with thick socks.

BarefootHippieChick · 18/10/2021 22:55

Can't you wear the rolled up jeans with chunky ankle/biker boots?

goose1964 · 18/10/2021 23:47

How about, shock horror, full length trousers? I wouldn't think rolled up jeans and boots would count as smartish. Most of the population think that ankle length trousers means you bought them too short.

Socks

thedevilinablackdress · 19/10/2021 07:50

Posted too quickly... lovely wool socks in pretty colours.
PP above is clearly Not A Fan of cropped trousers, but it's a fairly established look now and I wear it in the winter with appropriate socks.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 19/10/2021 07:57

You could wear tights under your trousers/ loose jeans with socks and boots if you're cold. I've recently started wearing Uniqlo heattech leggings under my 501s with Allbirds hightop mizzles, and Uniqlo heattech wide neck tshirts under their Merino wool v necks with a long cardigan over that at work, but we don't have to be especially smart (just presentable) and move from inside to outside a lot, plus have windows and doors open. I'm aware I'm not especially fashionable 🤣 but I do actually get compliments.

Dress, thick tights, knee high boots

Jeans, thick boots like timberlands for casual, or lined low boots. Thick socks

RaoulDufysCat · 19/10/2021 09:24

I wear tights (and sometimes socks as well) under cropped trousers when it gets really cold. But for now I am just wearing knee length socks and boots and am warm enough.

BarefootHippieChick · 19/10/2021 09:43

Ankle length smart trousers can also be worn with socks and lace up brogues if you like that kind of look

DuchessSilver · 19/10/2021 15:42

Jumping on this, what can we wear with mom jeans in the winter to avoid cold ankles?

MsMillyMollyMandy · 19/10/2021 16:12

Re Mom Jeans and barrel leg jeans - I bought these as my ankles began to feel cold. Love wearing them. So comfortable

I felt cold in work yesterday so today I wore slim leg trousers, warm socks and loafers. The socks have made such a difference! and it looks fine! I still prefer the 'no sock' look but honestly have to put comfort first when it comes to being cold and this for me is a good compromise. I also wear dresses a lot (to work) throughout winter. I have lots of warm dresses, wear them with a thermal top, tights and boots (ankle or knee length) and they look smart but keep me cosy.

thedevilinablackdress · 19/10/2021 17:28

Socks @DuchessSilver
The answer is always socks Smile

dudsville · 20/10/2021 20:57

I've never felt my ankles get cold. Feet, yes. But not ankles!

@Caspianberg but my jeans look weird now with boots- if you can't wear skinnies anymore the ones I have are just odd now and wrinkly!
pickingdaisies · 20/10/2021 22:22

OP, channel your inner Olivia Newton John and get yourself some legwarmers. It has to be a trend that's due a rerun. You can start it.

BrainBleachNeeded · 20/10/2021 22:27

I’ve honestly been wearing leg warmers inside the house the last week or so, and I understand why they exist now.

But anyway, I wear thick tights with dresses and boots or wide leg short trousers with tights. I’ve seen women wear smart tapered chinos with what looks like tights underneath or socks pulled up with loafers and they look really good too.

I do like ankle boots with skinnies, but I can’t wear trousers anymore since lockdowns. I’ll be going back to office in tights and loose dresses.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 20/10/2021 22:27

Knee highs in natural or a suitable colour

stillonthattightrope · 20/10/2021 22:38

I plan on wearing chunky Chelsea boots or DMs with my mom/turn up jeans.
