Alternative to jeans for winter?

I'm a fan of dresses with tights but for some situations (watching kids football in the rain for example) I want to wear some kind if trouser. I HATE jeans although I am wearing them often as I can't think of other options. I'm a size 18, look terrible in skinnies and while mom jeans are ok with trainers in summer don't work with winter boots.
Any ideas? Needs to go with boots, jumpers, duffle coat type outfits for winter walks and sports events etc. Help!

Knee length knitted wool dresses and wool tights?

EnglishGirlApproximately · 17/10/2021 18:44

My preference is dresses and tights generally and that's definitely what I wear mostly but really need something different for various things. For example this week I'm going to a few theme parks so I'll wear jeans for practicality but be uncomfortable all day!

Following, I am stuck too. I like the wide leg look but struggle with footwear. I def don't want any wet trouser bottoms flapping about my ankles (shudder). I do wear my black mom jeans slightly turned up with chunky black biker boots. I think it looks good and have had lots of compliments on the boots.

You can get leggings that are called 'treggings'. They're much thicker than leggings and mine have a seam down the front the way trousers would. I live in mine. You could wear them with winter boots and even socks pulled up over the treggings so you can see them. I do that when it's cold and my fashionable pal says i look trendy. Also, NEXT do brilliant jeggings that look very jean like and have a strong, elasticated waist.

I wear denim joggers from Next. They're fitted but not too fitted and stretchy with a cuff at the bottom. Great with trainers but also good with wellies as they tuck in converse/vans type footwear. I'm an 18.

*and. Good with wellies and cons/vans.

Hmm looks like I might need to look in Next then. I actually don't mind my legs on leggings if they're good quality - definitely more flattering then skinny jeans. I've tried jeggings before and wasn't keen but may have been the brand.

I find Next are a good shape and the material is decent too. Also, they're not that pricey. You can order online and take them back too which I find so convenient. (I hate the taking back part but ordering is just so easy Wink).

I wear corduroy trousers when it's really cold 👌

Ooh I love a cord.

I used to go for layers for football. Primark used to do some really good fleece lined legging that were very thick. Heat Holder tights too, they're thermal. Lovely and toasty.

Invisimamma · 17/10/2021 20:54

Following for ideas, size 18 too. I like fleece lines leggings, so thicker than a leggings, with a long line top or tunic type dress and boots.

Or jeggings style trousers in colours like Berry red or emerald green. Love the tesco ones.

I wear Uniqlo Heattech stretch denim leggings, I usually hate skinny jeans but these are nice and more like leggings than skinnies. They have a lovely soft brushed lining and are really warm in the winter. I stand on football sidelines quite a bit so need the warmth! I usually wear them with a wool tunic dress and mid calf length boots

EnglishGirlApproximately · 17/10/2021 23:13

Thanks all I've done a bit of googling and am ordering treggings, fleece line leggings and I've spotted a pair of cord jeggings which look good too. Fingers crossed I will find warmth and comfort!
@timtam23 I always find uniqluo sizing isn't quite right on me, I'm a bit in between for them I think but maybe the stretch in these will help so I'll take a look.

I think the M & S Lily jeans are great with boots or trainers and only £19.50.

I also like matt leather look leggings, I buy the Next ones, very flattering too.
