Suit for a black tie event

TravelLost · 16/10/2021 20:26

Ds (18yo) has been invitted to his first ever black tie event. He needs a suit.

Where would you get one? (DH not helpful, the only time he wore a suit was 25 years ago for our wedding…)
What would you go for? A suit, does it have to be black? Etc….

If the invite says "black tie" that means evening dress for men. You can hire them which is a cheaper option and probably the best idea if you aren't going to use the suit often.

I'd hire one

Check out Next. My son got a nice slim fit modern looking tux there recently.

More formal tuxedo than a suit you'd wear to work hence hiring is an easier option

There's tons on eBay if you do secondhand.

Thank you all.

I’ll check with ds to see if he could get away with a ‘smart’ suit rather than a tuxedo (esp as I doubt he would be wearing one anyway!)

In some ways, I don’t mind buying a suit. He’ll need one anyway.
Apart from Next, is there any other places where you can buy one?
