I have lots of gorgeous vintage dresses. Am trying desperately to sort wardrobe and only keep/wear things I really love. Was thinking of flogging most of wardrobe and going much more minimalist - to make dressing easier but also as an image change - some of me questions the point of having loads of clothes and wonders if people judge me via the vintage stuff as frivolous, if that makes any sense? But then I look at the stuff and I love it and how it allows me to support slow fashion...

Anyway, am definitely finding it hard to dress for the everyday - looking after small children (working part-time!). I have quite a few pairs of jeans but can’t work out what to wear them with?! Please help - happy to answer more questions! TIA.

I'm such a scruff, I've asked a few questions on here and what I seem to get told comes back to choosing nice and often natural materials. Things like cashmere or merino wool. Maybe choose tops / jumpers in lovely fabrics, colours and patterns so you still feel like you? I'm sure someone better will be along, one of the people that run the gaff 😉

Age, size/shape, what shape of jeans, your preferred footwear all would be useful details

Thanks @Indecisivelurcher!

@VanCleefArpels - mid 30s, size 6-8, slim, love an ‘ugly’ shoe - DMs/DM boots, flatforms, etc. If it makes any difference, I’m sporty, too (just throws another aspect into my confusing aesthetic! 😂).

Just (a second 🙈) very gentle bump so that post doesn’t get lost...

Would it be possible to turn some of your dresses into tops to wear with jeans? Seems silly to get rid if you like them that much when there might be a way to wear them that works for having young kids.

MadameSapphire · 17/10/2021 11:43

Oh, that’s such an interesting idea, @Insertdeadcatsnamehere! I think, though, that I might narrow the dresses down and just where them going out... so what I need is ideas for what to wear casually, I guess (particularly on top half) - I just can’t seem to get that right from day to day.

If you like vintage dresses, and that's what makes you happy- I'd hope you could find some tops or jumpers that are either vintage (which may require a quick ebay/look around a vintage shop) or looking for brands that are vintage inspired like Jonie or pretty kitty. As I don't know what particular era you enjoy wearing, this could look nice with your jeans- prettykittyfashion.co.uk/collections/tops/products/vintage-emerald-green-3-4-sleeve-tie-neck-top
