Seeking a white silk shirt

I’m trying to find a white silk button-down blouse, something relatively simple/plain and classic. Winser has some great options, I tried a lovely one from Sezane, and I see Jigsaw has one too. BUT they’re not white, they’re all ‘ivory’ which doesn’t usually suit me. What I’m looking for is a plain blouse in a soft white colour (i.e. a true white but not an optic white if possible, but most importantly not cream). Has anyone found such a thing? Budget up to £150 but could stretch further for the perfect blouse (provided it can tolerate dry cleaning every once in a while).

LilySilk has some that look white. I have one of their other shirts that seems to be good quality but I’ve never owned one of their button downs.

Try the Winser one: the Tilda style is great. If the colour works for you, they are the best silk shirts. Size down as they are very generously cut.

The White Company have an ivory one that looks more white than ivory, or at least it does on my iPad screen!

Or if you could stretch your budget, then Equipment probably do one.

I LOVE the look of the Winser ones but the colour looks really creamy and I don’t want to be disappointed!

Do you know how thick the Equipment ones are? This looks like it would fit the bill www.equipmentfr.com/shop/shirts/bradner-silk-shirt-in-nature-white but it would need to be thick not to show everything without pockets…

I'm sorry ToManderley, I have no idea - I've only ever seen them online.

It looks quite opaque in those pictures, doesn't it, but I have been let down by many a white top before in that respect.

botemp · 16/10/2021 20:27

I don't know about that specific model but the Equipment signature silk shirt in white is quite transparent, it's also a really stark white that looks a bit cheap as a result. I'm a big fan of Equipment silk shirts but the white is the only one I'd avoid.

Filippa K does a nice silk shirt with a bit of weight to it and &Other Stories does a good one as well but colours with both are seasonal so I don't know if they currently stock white.

botemp · 16/10/2021 20:31

This one from Everlane could be a good alternative in bone white, I'm not sure how opaque it is but there's lots of Everlane reviews out there on YouTube and similar so probably could find out through there.

Sezane has 2 beautiful silk blouses. The Chloe shirt and the Florence shirt.

mrssmiling · 17/10/2021 07:39

Patra have quite a few silk shirts, and they are reasonably priced.
This one is described as ‘cream’ but looks rather white.

Might be worth a look. I’ve only bought silk vests from Patra but tge quality was good. Jigsaw and Mint Velvet sometimes have nice silk shirts but they only seem to have coloured at the moment.

Thanks so much for all the replies!

@botemp - the Filippa K silk blouse looks to have a lovely drape in the darker colours so I will look out for one in white in spring if I don't find anything sooner. I already have a silk blouse from &OtherStories, but I've realised that the reason I don't wear it that much is because its colour tends towards cream as well.

@Notonthenewrug - I have tried both those blouses from Sezane and they would have been spot on if the colour was right for me!

@mrssmiling - that Maje blouse is a good shout. I am due a trip to London so will take a look. The photo of the Patra one looks good too but I feel like I should be guided by the fact that they've called it 'cream' and not white!

Why is it so difficult to track down a white blouse, am I simply looking at the wrong time of year?!
