Help me find a new haircut - with photos

I haven't had a haircut since December 2019 (shielding) and my hair has grown long and straggly. Everyday I just tie it back. I hate it getting in my eyes.

I have a hairdresser booked for Wednesday, but please help me with what to ask for?! I have little interest in hair (can you tell?!) and hate having to spend time drying and styling. On top of that, I've been ill and my hair is now so fine. I can't promise I'll have the energy for something that needs maintenance so I need something super easy and designed to be self-sustaining! This is my natural colour. I had curls but sadly they've disappeared.

Happy to go short and I think something to cover my big forehead - although then I worry about my square jawline! I'm not trendy so nothing spikey or scary please!

I hope you are booked with a good hairdresser. They should examine your hair and talk to you before re-styling your hair. I hope other people can give you some suggestions. My hair has been in a short bob for years and years because it’s all it will do.

I think you should just leave it or get a trim. You'll miss not being able to tie it back. It's a lovely colour and I like the waves and length. I looks better than you think it does.

Use different products like Aveda damage repair which always makes hair look glossy and healthy

I worry that I look like an aged rocker with a straggly little mullet?!

@MalteseBubs: sadly the waves don't always appear. Usually bolt straight abs scraped back as per the image.

The other photo shows when I last had short hair. Yes, I was much younger then (and yes, still poorly). I don't know if I could pull it off now?

@waltzingparrot : I don't know!

And don't know if I could carry it off now I am old and haggard?!

You're beautiful! Not old and haggard at all!
You could definitely carry that off.😀

Halfway then if you're not keen you can go pixie?

You can see your camera roll in your post btw

I sort of think if Dame Judi Dench can carry a pixie cut off well, then it's not to do with age!

I totally understand that exhausted feeling and then when your hair's being a bother with it, it's all even worse. I also get you don't like it in your face and that you don't want to mess with it

Something like this might work as a cut and then spray it to keep it out of your eyes.

Do tell the stylist all about what you like or don't like in terms of movement and fuss. I hope you get an uplifting experience and it helps make you feel a bit better in yourself.

Hmm there does seem to be some thinning. Have you seen your doctor recently? Maybe ask for a general blood test. When I had anaemia my hair thinned to see-through point, got put on iron tablets then got it cut to my shoulders and it’s been so thick since.
