Mulberry Alexa or Bayswater

haveaglassofwine · 15/10/2021 09:45

I'm so indecisive, I have been looking at Mulberry bags for a long time and I'm ready to make my first purchase, it is a big purchase, partly a present for a big birthday and I really don't want to make a wrong choice, any help or advice would be gratefully received.

I am trying to decide between a Bayswater, either in Oak or Oxblood
and an Alexa in chestnut or Mulberry green

I really like the Mulberry green but can't help feeling that the chestnut would be more practical?
Usually I would go with the colour that I like and not worry about the practical side but as this will be a one off purchase I'm worried I would regret it?

Has anyone got either or both of these bags that can help make a choice? I'm going round in circles trying to decide and have been for several weeks.
Thank you

Get both or neither.

If you are not familiar with them, check out that you will be happy with the weight of one once it has stuff in

I have both op, and love them both- no help!

I had the Bays first as I use for work as it can fit my laptop in too and is useful for travel too. The Alexa is more casual but beautiful! The green would be beautiful, I think it may actually be more versatile in someways. For example, I have the chestnut Alexa and wouldn’t wear with a black coat etc, but the green would be fab with light or dark colours?

I have 2 Bayswaters and an Alexa (although not in these colours). They are very different bags in terms of size, structure and look so think about when you’ll be using it and what your personal style is. I find the Alexa is more slouchy, easy to use across body whereas the Bayswater is much more structured. It always has to be handheld which can be a faff and depending on the leather you go for, can be heavy when full. That said, Personally I much prefer the Bayswater to Alexa.

I have several Bayswater’s and two Alexas, one an old slouchy one and a new one in much stiffer leather which holds its shape. I would wear a chestnut bag with a black coat so that wouldn’t be an issue, I also think it’s a colour that works for summer and winter, oak too. Personally I like a long strap which gives the Alexa the edge, it’s also a bit smaller , but you may prefer larger

ShirleyBadass · 15/10/2021 16:40

I would go chestnut Alexa...I have a purple Bayswater which I love but does feel formal!

Chrysanthemum5 · 15/10/2021 17:04

@ShirleyBadass I also have a Bayswater in purple! It was a 40th birthday present and people suggested black or brown would be more practical but I knew I wouldn't be getting another one so I wanted something special

I have both - oversized Alexas and bayswaters in a couple of sizes. It depends on use; the Alexa is much more slouchy, the Bays more formal. I prefer my big bays if I'm carrying my laptop as they hold the shape better. The smaller bays in bright colours always get admired (I have a candy pink and persian green) and are lovely day to day.

TattiePants · 15/10/2021 21:38

@ShirleyBadass and @Chrysanthemum5 another one here with a purple Bayswater (red onion) but mine is in a slouchy leather.

I’m not much of a handbag person, so I had a look to see what all the fuss about mulberry bags is about. Wow, they’re gorgeous and now in think I might have to have one! I love the green Alexa one, I think that would be my choice but they’re all lovely, enjoy OP! X

@TattiePants @Chrysanthemum5 and there I was thinking I was unique dammit Smile

I love the jewel colours, Kate Spade is really good for that too and a bit closer to my current budget!

I love my original shape Bayswater as it's dressier so I feel it's suitable for work out out day or night. I don't like the Alexa. However the downside if the Bayswater is its heavy and can only fit over my shoulder when not wearing a jacket. Which is fine except when shirt if hands and trying to chase DC about whiskey wearing a jacket!

I really want a Lilly for when I need a lighter and smaller bag

redferrari · 16/10/2021 18:39

They are beautiful bags but v heavy for use if you plan to carry a laptop. I would check in person before buying.

winterescape · 16/10/2021 19:25

I have both.

I love both.

Black Bayswater.

Over sized Oak Alexa.

Both are big bags and can become heavy if you carry a lot around with you. I suggest whichever bag you get you buy a liner.

The Bayswater is a bit more structured. Alexa is more slouchy.

I use my Bayswater for work and my Alexa for the weekend.

Are you buying new? You could consider one of the very good second hand groups on Facebook and possibly buy both and sell on what you decide not to keep.

Chrysanthemum5 · 19/10/2021 15:29

Or @ShirleyBadass and @TattiePants maybe we are just three very tasteful clever women who recognised a good bag when we saw it 🤣
