Dinner in London, what to wear??

Hi Ladies. I'm packing for the weekend in London, dinner out at reasonably nice (not chain restaurants but not fine dining) on Saturday & Sunday.

What are people wearing for dinner in London these days??

Where I live has always been quite relaxed for evening wear and the pandemic hasn't made it any more formal. I don't know how to dress for cities.

I'm thinking these boots and then a more casual dress in a dark colour (by casual I mean not skin tight so I can fit my dinner in or too short or too sparkly).

Thoughts please?

I think the fab thing about London is that you will see everything-anything goes as long as you are comfortable and happy-

I never want to be the most dressed up person anywhere but that is personal taste-your outfit sounds lovely.

It is hard not to be more specific when we don;t actually know the restaurant... surely it's not too revealing to name it????

The best thing about London is that you can always be you. Wear whatever you want.

Londoners tend to dress down. And don't wear heels. But at the same time, no-one really cares so wear what you like and don't worry about it (unless there's a dress code where you're going).

Anything you feel comfortable in.

I remember getting dressed up for a birthday meal at J Sheekey and the people on the next table were wearing shell suits and trainers!

To be honest I usually avoid heels at every turn but those boots make me feel like a badass, and I can walk in them and they don't hurt, so whenever I want to feel a bit 'together' out they come. Wearing a more casual dress with them keeps the Pretty Woman vibe under control

Don't go mad. A naice top and trousers/jeans or a simple dress/skirt and blouses combo will do. Clean plain trainers or ankle boots. Leather backpack or tote. As long as you are expressing yourself no-one insists on a dress code as such.

@DarkestBeforeDawn They're Steve Madden from Dune, I've had them years. They're a bit tighter on the calf on me than in the picture but I think that looks better

Thanks all. I'll also have flat black boots / skinny jeans (I don't care they're no longer a thing, they'll have to peel them off my cold dead legs) with me so will throw in a nice top & see how I feel on the day.

I went to Brassiere Zedel in the summer and wore a blue and white china pattern dress with blue espadrille type shoes. Lots of men in suits and women in a variety of outfits. I was happy with my outfit especially as it was loose on my stomach so I could get 3 courses!

Those boots and a t-shirt or jumper dress (maybe Cos) would be great.

I've been to both places and there really is no dress code, so don't worry.

Just wear whatever you're comfortable in.

Dinner in London is very dressed down at the moment. Even in the higher end places everyone is in jeans. You can wear what you like, including dressing up.

If you wanted to dress up how about the boots with a blazer dress?

Pretty much anything you feel good in!

Brasserie Zedel and Kazan don't really have dress codes as such when I've been there so whatever you feel comfy in.

However I would say don't go in your oldest scruffiest jeans!

Last time I went to Zedel I wore a dress and 'designer' trainers. There were women there in full on 'ball gown' type dresses, lots of people who'd obviously come straight from work, people in nice dresses and heels, people in jeans and a beautiful guy in full drag in a skin tight leopard skin dress. It really did feel like anything goes, but it would be a perfect opportunity to wear your boots and a dress.

Brasserie Zedel is great, I go there a lot and have never once seen anyone dressed in full on ball gowns! I've worn a denim blouse, jeans & Converse to an off-the shoulder top, wrap leather skirt and super high heels, and everything in between.

The beauty of London is that while it is a relatively casual city, if you want to dress up, do, wear whatever you fancy and sod everyone else. Wear what makes you feel good and isn't going to feel too snug after lots of delicious food!

It was two ladies, probably in their 60s. I wondered if they might be actresses. Anyway, they looked great.

Last time I was there Maureen Lipman was on another table. And Jay Rayner has been working the room on a couple of occasions (think he has something to do with its management).

No, Rayner has nothing to do with the management but he often hosts 'My Last Supper' and plays with his jazz quartet at the Crazy Coqs (which is part of Zedel)
