Wording for dress code!

Local group of Scottish country dancers. Normally we would have a st Andrew’s ball with “ formal dress encouraged” ie long or evening wear frocks, kilts for men. After an 18 month pause, we are just getting going again, and while we will have a ball this year, it will be a more low key affair. The men will still probably choose to wear kilts, but for the women less formal attire would be expected- naice frock but probably not full length.

How do we word this on invitations? It’s a bit more that “smart casual” but it’s not quite “ dress to impress”

Thanks for any suggestions :-)

I think that’s ‘lounge wear’ but now that sounds like cashmere jimjams!

Someone did say we should specify “ no pyjamas!”

‘Dancing attire’ sounds prettier!

Glad rags

Kilts and glad rags might work!

Could you say "kilts and cocktail dresses"?
