Going out with the girls at weekend, however they are all 10 years younger than me...I look younger than I am but not sure if I could get away with wearing what I wore at their age anymore. Im a short petite so long dresses don't look right on me. I like the look of the bodycon dresses but think I'm a little old. I usually wear shorts or skinny jeans and a pretty vest top but want to try something different, any ideas anyone. Thank you. Blush

Something like this?

With wet look leggings/skinny jeans/leggings? And shoe boots?

I don’t think people really dress up for nights out any more, fashion has gone a bit more casual again.

How about something like this:

MaverickDanger · 12/10/2021 06:57

Sounds like you like your legs, I’d go a blazer dress.

ashmts · 12/10/2021 07:17

Bodycon dresses are dated. Don't wear what you'd have worn 10 years ago, not because of you/your body, but because nobody dresses like 2011 any more. I like the suggestion of a shirt and wet look leggings (the Spanx faux leather are good if budget allows) but I'd go with chunky flat DMs, not shoe boots.

Glassofshloer · 12/10/2021 09:12

I have to agree with @ashmts body on dresses/huge eyelashes/heels are very out now.

thisplaceisweird · 12/10/2021 09:21

Blazer dress is a great idea previous poster.
I also think a pretty wrap midi dress with heels can look lovely, ditto slinky midi satin skirt.

Jeans, heels and a great top will never let you down though so keep that as your plan B

Where are you going OP? What size, height or build are you? Favourite colour, best feature?

SpamIAm · 12/10/2021 09:40

Clearly no one has told the residents of South Wales that people don't dress up anymore. I've never seen people so dressed up as they've been in Cardiff on my recent trips!

I'm going out soon OP and planning to wear a white fitted wrap dress with ankle boots and leather jacket. Last time I was out I wore a maxi skirt with a crop top (although that one was supposed to be a few early afternoon cocktails that escalated...).

ifonly22 · 12/10/2021 10:14

Just saw the short petit bit, sorry!

PumpkinCrumble · 12/10/2021 10:31

I disagree about bodycon dresses. Totally in with a oversize blazer worn over them. Also the idea that people don’t dress up is, perhaps, location and activity specific. If you are going out “clubbing” then people are definitely dressed up…out for pizza, yeah that might be more casual. I’m the same age as you I’ve recently done “jeans and a nice top” with a blazer over (jeans were M&S girlfriend, or skinny flares) and a long tulle midi skirt and more casual top. Both of these times started as low key events, till we ended up staying out! Grin

DinosaurOfFire · 12/10/2021 10:49

@SpamIAm I agree! South Wales, and on my last night out (in the summer) felt underdressed in flat silver sandals (I don't wear heels) but figured I was comfy so it was fine. People definitely dress up a bit more for nights out here. Even the teens here go out fully dressed "up" with hair/ nails/ short skirts etc. Bodycon is definitely in with a blazer or something over it, short dresses seem to be popular as well.

Don't know why people on here need to be so unnecessarily rude. Also inaccurate IMO, they'd be wearing skinny jeans and Converse. I think we're visualising slightly different outfits.

Boyfriend blazer is a good shout, it's probably all in the accessories and styling. The outfits described in the OP do sound a little old-fashioned to me. It does probably depend where you're going and what the other girls are wearing.

MistySkiesAfterRain · 12/10/2021 12:13

My friend is petite and has been wearing small low cut flat black ankle boots with patterned mid thigh tshirt dresses.

AllySmelly · 12/10/2021 12:18

Agree with @ashmts ... and DMS are everywhere at the moment

PumpkinCrumble · 12/10/2021 12:58

Yeah I wore DMS with my Girlfriend jeans, I never wear heels, so I was worried about getting in club in them; but there was no issue!

Justmeandthree · 12/10/2021 16:20

Thanks all for your comments. I've got the burgundy DMS...I love them. I like the jumpsuit but at 5" I think I will look swamped in it.l Grin I've got no boobs either, like at all Blush

Im in Glasgow and I disagree that folk arent dressing up! Everyone is fed up of slumming it at home in joggies so going full on glam! Im a bit past clubbing but been to bars and out for food and all the ladies were v dressed up!
I would go dress but with ankle boots.

Hakunapotato · 16/10/2021 03:11

@ashmts I agree. I think it depends where you are in the country. Certain bodycons can work. But where I am it’s dressing down but glamming up makeup. Probs doesn’t make much sense but that’s how I’d describe it

Justmeandthree · 16/10/2021 10:07

I've decided on some high waisted faux leather pants and a crop top. With a wedge shoe. I decided against a dress, too bloody cold Confused

Thanks for all your help Grin
