“Grown up” perfume for teen

JumperandJacket · 10/10/2021 15:53

DD14 would like some perfume for Christmas but not one of the brands aimed at teens. She doesn’t know which one and would like a surprise.

Any suggestions? I had thought of Coco Mademoiselle but it might be a bit too girly as her style is quite androgynous.

@MissBattleaxe Thanks. I have just ordered that perfume society new launches box for my sister in law! Looks great.

madamceladon · 13/10/2021 15:04

or another take is introduce her to a proper grown up classic, chanel 19 or something?

ParkheadParadise · 13/10/2021 15:08

Viktor & Rolf
Bon Bon or flower bomb
Jimmy Choo
Coco mademoiselle is my favourite.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 13/10/2021 15:16

Ghost Daydream is nice. My younger dd started wearing it as a teen. She also liked Avon's Incandessence.

Sugarcube84 · 13/10/2021 15:16

I immediately thought of D&G light blue.

JudgementalCactus · 13/10/2021 15:18

If you think something rather unisex might suit her then maybe Elizabeth Arden White Tea?

MrsRubyMonday · 13/10/2021 15:21

Hugo Boss woman is my favourite more unisex perfume, or DKNY Pure also gets a lot of compliments. One of my all time favourites is DKNY green apple as well, or the previously recommended Daisy.

RampantIvy · 13/10/2021 15:51

Another vote for Daisy.

mathanxiety · 13/10/2021 15:58

Perfumes can react completely differently on different skin. Daisy smells great on me but foul on DD3 (I bought it for her but it's mine now).

You need to try perfumes on before handing over your money.

JumperandJacket · 13/10/2021 16:55

Thanks everyone. I am off to give your suggestions a sniff tomorrow.

I recommend visiting The Perfume Shop if you can. Their staff are really knowledgeable and will offer some good suggestions. Usually some decent offers too.

There's a pretty big gap between the styles of clothes I wear and the kinds of smells I enjoy / tolerate. Even when I glam it up, I can't really take super-floral or super-musky perfumes. It's sensory overload.

CK One isn't bad, but it was popular with a lot of boys when I was growing up, despite it being marketed as unisex. It was like Lynx for middle class teens.

I agree with the suggestions re: Hugo Boss Woman and DKNY Be Delicious (Golden delicious nice too).

It's a bit out of fashion I think, but I love my L'Occitane verbena EDT. It's really fresh and sweet smelling.

Nuxe is really nice too. Nuxe Sun is kind of a summery beach scent.

M&S Pink Pepper or spiced bergamot (got sample in the last beauty bag deal) are also really nice without smelling like someone shoved a bouquet up my nose. Grin

@Poppets14

I’m thinking light and floral?

Daisy by Marc Jacobs
Clinique Happy
Nina by Nina Ricci
Light Blue D&G

These are all quite old but I wore these when I was younger and still love all of them 💕

I still wear Clinique Happy and have done for over 20 years (I'm a one-scent kind of girl).

Rive Gauche is also lovely.

JumperandJacket · 14/10/2021 14:20

Just to update- I went for Daisy by Marc Jacobs. Thank you for your help, everyone.

I’ve seen you’ve got one but the one my friends (in our 30s) are loving is Ariana Grande Cloud. It’s gorgeous

marmiteloversunite · 16/10/2021 08:06

I just bought my 19yr old DD the new Gucci Flora perfume for her birthday. She is really pleased with it. Very pretty bottle and it came with a free Gucci comb from The Perfume Shop

MrsDThomas · 16/10/2021 08:16

Im 47 and wouldn’t like someone to buy me perfume. Why don’t you pip into Boots together and have fun smelling them? Then decide on one of the choices?

shrugshrug · 16/10/2021 08:30

I find Zara's Twilight Mauve is very very sweet.
I bought it after seeing it recommended on Mumsnet. I didn't test it first ( big mistake ) as there were no testers available due to Covid.
I wouldn't repurchase.

EvelynBeatrice · 16/10/2021 12:25

I tried both Cloud and the new Ariana Grande ‘God is a Woman’ recently. They both turn to a slightly sour wet baby nappy / baby wipes smell on me! It’s another example of body chemistry changing perfumes on everyone differently!
