Orange faded hair

I dye my hair to hide greys. Natural colour is dark brown and I have tried to match it. I've done this at home and through a salon. No matter what I do, it fades to an orange colour. Nothing wrong with beautiful natural red hair. This isn't that. It's just drab and brassy. What am I doing wrong?

You're not doing anything wrong. It happens to me too. If you use a permanent dye it won't happen so much, but it'll probably come out much darker than you expect.

Even permanent will fade a little over time, but not to that flat orange.

I had this too and started to use a colour with ash in it and in-between ploughing I used purple shampoo and that seemed to help. It still fades and you can sometimes see the brassiness but it's not as bad
