How do I find a summer style? In a rut and need ideas!

I’m 43, live in Sydney so I’m heading into summer. Had the first warm day today where I had to go out and wear something other than the active wear and t shirt I’ve been in for the last 4 months.
My summer clothes all looked so uninspiring. Plus I’m fatter than last year (thanks covid kilos!) and I have some money but I don’t know where to start.
What should I wear? What’s in fashion for a size 12/14, 5ft 4 middle aged women?
I want to look casual and not too done up, things I can pop out for coffee in (I’m ok for work clothes), go to the shops, hang out with the kids etc.
What do you wear on warm summer days that fits that bill? Where do I even find inspiration? Not magazines surely as they’re all for young, slimmer people.

Look at what other people your age bracket are wearing out and about

Midi skirts are in fashion, I wear lots of these with vest or t shirt tops. I like t shirts and vests with detailing like ruffles on the sleeves as they are more flattering than straight sleeves.

I usually try and coordinate new clothes so they mix and match well together. Usually a colourful print skirt and black, white and stripe tops and tan accessories. I build up a small uniform of mix and match options so I can pull on any combination in a morning and they will go together.

Midi dresses can also be good as a one-piece option but even casual ones can sometimes feel a bit formal, at least the ones with sleeves. I like midi sundresses though. I buy ones with thick not thin straps, thick enough to cover bra straps and add a bit of balance to all the fabric in the lower half.

Kowtow clothing

In NZ. And the UK. Some pieces a bit weird, others outstanding. Bought a fabulously printed cotton dress for English Summer a few months ago. Amazing fabric, bold cut. Zeitgeisty.

You’re welcome!
