BODEN latest catalogue - bleurgh!

Boden is my go-to for basics, and I've bought from them since they first launched, but honestly, the latest catalogue dropped through the door yesterday and it's just awful.
The embellishment and motifs on tops etc and the prices!
I know Boden is a bit love/hate on MN, but they seem to be plumbing new depths.

Threw my catalogue away after a cursory look through it yesterday. I didn’t notice the prices but I just couldn’t see anything plain and nice!

JinglingHellsBells · 08/10/2021 08:13

I agree!

I totally agree- I feel like they don't know what to do with themselves since Covid and people's wardrobes/dressing habits have changed. It all seems to have gone a bit 'chintzy'.

KirstenBlest · 08/10/2021 15:53

There's a ruffle sweatshirt I like.

Lebranic · 08/10/2021 17:27

I thought it all looked like kids clothes! A nice coat but then rainbow strips on it. Not thanks

KirstenBlest · 08/10/2021 17:40

I don't want rainbows on anything. I'll wear kid's clothes but not rainbows or unicorns

KirstenBlest · 08/10/2021 17:50

I hadn't looked at the coats and to be fair only a few have rainbows but they were a bit much.

There's a nice cord blazer

ArabeI · 08/10/2021 17:55

I didn't bother to look at my catalogue either.

I haven't bought very much for a long time, but decided to buy a few basics and jersey. I've had to send more than half of it back; modal, poor quality and fit. I no longer have the confidence in them to buy anything else. It's a shame really.

MistySkiesAfterRain · 08/10/2021 17:56

I found the catalgue really dark. I had to turn the lights up to see it. I get that its jewel winter but shooting in dark light didn't help. Saying that I always find Boden is a grower- I go back and look and decide some pieces are nice.

DGFB · 08/10/2021 18:47

Agreed though their long sleeved modal/cotton plain coloured puff sleeve t-shirts this season are amazing! Washing well and just lovely on . Also the pyjama bottoms… brushed cotton and thick

I think I kept the very same one in the azure. The colour is very nice and thicker fabric than some of the other clothes.
BobaFettOnMyBedsideTable · 09/10/2021 21:42

Felt the same when I flicked through. What's with the toddler print on some of it? Foxes and whimsical woodland scenes, ummmmm no thanks.

I bought some of their 'voop' 3/4 length t shirts last year and they all shrunk in the wash (30 degrees and no tumble dryer), and come to think of it the sweatshirt I bought also went out of shape. The quality no longer justifies the price tag.

DGFB · 10/10/2021 07:34

Arabel, yes that’s the one. Lovely

Scoutingformygirls · 10/10/2021 07:39

The prices are bonkers! £60 for a pair of the short wellybobs I looked at!

JinglingHellsBells · 10/10/2021 08:01

And £30+ for a simple long sleeved T shirt.
£60 for something that looks like a rugby top (the sort you get from Cotton Traders.)

And their basic Richmond trousers can be bought at elsewhere for half the cost (John Lewis do similar for around £40)

Why can't they just stick to simple, good quality basics, instead of messing everything up with frills, sparkle, motifs, animals, etc etc etc.

Surely they understand that when they get something right, it sells out in weeks and all that's left in the sale is hideous stuff yet they keep churning it out.

I think Boden prices are a bit mad - I looked at a couple of midi dresses in the new catalogue but they were both around £130. I know you can almost always find a discount code but even with that it makes a simple day dress a significant investment.

In contrast I bought a lovely, well made and really flattering midi day dress in Fat Face for £65 last week which I'm going to get loads of wear out of now it's getting a bit cooler.

These days I can't really justify Boden's prices unless it's something extra special.

Branleuse · 10/10/2021 08:45

I like some of the toddler chic stuff in this seasons catalogue but the prices seem to have shot up a lot. I also wish theyd diversify their models as they only ever use very tall and thin

speedtalker · 10/10/2021 09:25

I liked the idea of the paisley print in the recent heritage catalogue, but I'm always surprised by the prices of their dresses when they're just polyester.

You just reminded me to open the recent one with all the puffa jackets that I hadn't looked at. Thought a fleece looked quite cosy. The embellishments-on-everything is a bit much for me. Thought a kiddie rainbow coat looked lovely for a girl, but mine always wear puffa style jackets.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/10/2021 09:31

The prices are insane. I don't like much from them but I do like the occasional plain black jumper etc. I had a voucher for £20 off recently, but even with that things seemed ridiculously overpriced. The quality has really declined too.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 10/10/2021 09:34

Toddler chic Grin

I have my eye on one short dress for Christmas and a nice shirt. Otherwise, nothing I liked.

SheWoreYellow · 10/10/2021 09:38

The shirts/blouses are good though, really lovely prints.

Ikeameatballs · 10/10/2021 09:44

For me the cost:like:wear ratio has gone off completely.

If I like it and think I would get a decent bit of wear out of it (ie it fits my lifestyle) it’s often too expensive. More frequently I don’t really like the items and they are too expensive.

Standstheclockattentothree · 10/10/2021 09:51

I've long since moved on to Uniqlo. Boden quality has fallen off a cliff, and style wise they've become almost a parody of themselves. It reminds me of the latter days of Laura Ashley clothing - lots of expensive items, mostly awful, with the odd decent item thrown in.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/10/2021 10:29

Uniqlo shapes and sizes are awful for me, unfortunately.
