Ankle boots to go with midi dress

Scarydinosaurs · 07/10/2021 21:55

Any recommendations for smart but comfy ankle boots that go with evening/going out midi dresses?

I live in trainers so need to be comfortable but smart. Cannot bear the thought of high heels but small block heel would be okay.

I’m stuck! Thanks!

I wear DM boots 👍🏼

Shuttheblinds · 07/10/2021 23:31

I agree, DMs are the only ones to look at!

PurpleDaisies · 07/10/2021 23:32

Dms for me too.

DragonMamma · 07/10/2021 23:34

DMs here too - the all black ones. Pascal I think they are called 🤷🏼‍♀️

Anordinarymum · 07/10/2021 23:34

And meee too :)

Docs rule

Pippapet · 08/10/2021 16:24

I wouldn't wear docs for evening/going out as such.

I'd look at Gabor. They do some great ankle boots with small heels.

The National, Trudy, Breck, Kingston, and Boat styles would all be worth a look.

Granny boots with slightly chunky soles?
Grenson nanette=style boots?

KirstenBlest · 08/10/2021 16:31

I wear solovair dealer boots/derby boots or some 'grannyish' timberlands or some ancient but to me lovely ankle books

impressivelycunty · 08/10/2021 17:02

Moda In Pelle have a really good range of ankle boots

EraOfTheGrey · 08/10/2021 17:13

Solovair astronaut boots. More comfortable than any DM boots and British made. Great quality and don’t look as cheap as DM. They last for years too.

KirstenBlest · 08/10/2021 17:37

@EraOfTheGrey, yes, the solovair astronaut boots. Toast do a similar boot (Jade) and are a source of inspiration for styling midi dresses.
The solovair monkey boots look nice too.

I'm a big fan of solovairs. The derby ones look like DMs, the astronaut is a similar boot to the DM Emmeline and the dealer boots similar to the DM Flora. Toast, YMC , MHL and Plumo often sell them or their collabs with them.

I am not connected with the company but am a former DM wearer who got fed up of the lack of half sizes and the drop in quality

EraOfTheGrey · 08/10/2021 17:42

@KirstenBlest like you I was a DM wearer for many years. I actually sold 6 pairs of DM's and purchased my Solovair boot collection. I now have 2 pairs of astronauts in brown and black and a pair of black derbys. The quality is so very superior to DMs.

KirstenBlest · 08/10/2021 18:20

You are speaking to the converted @EraOfTheGrey. My collection of DMs went on ebay and was replaced by the solovairs.

I have 8-hole derby (not sure if I'll sell them as I prefer the astronauts and the dealers but they are lovely), the astronauts (toast version), burgundy monkey boots (gorgeous), ymc clogs, dealer boots, postman shoes, monk shoes and mary janes (toast again)

I think I'll sell the mary janes and the monks as I don't love them.

toast and i think plumo are now selling the Forest boots, but I'm not keen on them

I have lots of other boots as well and a few pairs of birkenstocks

EraOfTheGrey · 08/10/2021 18:35

@KirstenBlest here's me thinking I had a large boot collection. I have my eye on the toast Forest boots. I really don't need any more boots but these are calling to me.

KirstenBlest · 08/10/2021 19:20

I haven't taken a shine to them @EraOfTheGrey.

Do you remember Racing Green from the 1990s? I was a huge fan of their clothes and bought some ankle boots in black and a brown pair. I've not worn the brown pair, so those would do, if I wanted brown boots

Racing Green is back I think but not seen them. I still have some midi skirts from them. The quality was excellent

EraOfTheGrey · 08/10/2021 19:26

@KirstenBlest I'm not familiar with Racing Green.

I have these, very comfy and the look a lot nicer on than in the photos

KirstenBlest · 08/10/2021 19:49

@EraOfTheGrey, Back in the early 1990s, Boden and Next directory were new fangled things.

Racing Green was my go to back then. Mail order quality clothes a bit like Finsterre, Boden, Charles Tyrrwhitt now.

Their t-shirts were almost indestructable. I kept a few of clothes from there - flat fronted chinos (high waist and tapered) and midi straight skirts.

KirstenBlest · 08/10/2021 19:53

I don't know where they went wrong but they soon had high street shops - a big one on Regent Street and a cracking outlet at Bicester.

They sort of disappeared.

I won't fit into the trousers - sizes were much smaller then., I'm still the same size but my waist is bigger

KirstenBlest · 08/10/2021 19:58

They look elegant @Berlioz23. M&S footwear is stylish
