Lightweight water resistant jacket? Plus size? Not too plasticky?

My mum's reached the age where as she puts it, "the thermostat's a bit faulty" and she needs to layer up or remove layers depending on how she feels.

She'd like a showerproof jacket with a drawstring waist that covers her bottom as a top layer.

But not a Pac-A-Mac.

And she wants to be able to fit thermals, a jumper/twin set and a gilet underneath it potentially.

Any ideas?

I found the right sort of shape at New Look but it looks like it's made from very sweaty plastic.

That's the other thing. If it's expensive she won't wear it, she'll try and save it for best.

And she'll probably want to pin a brooch on it to jazz it up a bit.

Any ideas?

She should have a look at Seasalt for something made with it’s ‘tin cloth’ fabric (not all it’s coats are.)

Waterproof, but made of cotton and linen rather than synthetics. It feels like you’re wearing a cotton coat but keeps water out like a synthetic tech fabric. You have to reproof it every so often (stick it in the washing machine with Nikwax).

You can buy directly from Seasalt’s EBay outlet.

I have a Protected Species one which is lightweight and not plastic. Not cheap but definitely waterproof.

Have you looked at Decathlon? I love their products and have this sailing one and love it. Its breathable and comfy and comes in a few colours

The New Look one will actually be waterproof though so I'd get that one.
