Dying over highlights

I have naturally dark brown hair and have been having highlights for the past couple of years to blend the greys in. However, my hair lift surprisingly well and my hairdresser (who is very good at the cut and positioning of the highlights) always wants to get the highlight platinum blond, possible to blend the grey better?

I've asked her before if we can aim for more caramel highlights as bright blond on dark brown looks a bit stripy at times, but it still always comes out the same.

Does anyone know if putting a caramel blond box dye (permanent or semi permanent) over the top of the highlights would give me the desired result? Would it damage my hair too much?

I’m not sure about a home box dye but I’ve had highlights dyed at a salon and had fab results. I have brown hair and the blond highlights which I were growing out ended up at all different pretty shades of brown. It looked lovely and then lockdown happened so I started to and still do the roots myself .

I'd not risk that , go back and ask her for a different toner on to aim for what you asked for ?
