Seasalt Janelle

Hello!

Does the Janelle sizing come up roomy or tight? Seen a lot of conflicting posts on MN on a history search so wanted to try for some updated points of view!

I have the Seasalt Kellifray which is true to size but doesn't give much wriggle room in the chest area, ok for me as I am quite flat chested but if I wasn't I would have definitely needed fo size up. Don't know if that helps, the Janelle maybe totally different!

BobbinThreadbare123 · 06/10/2021 11:04

I have a Janelle. I'm a trim 12, quite busty though. The 12 is roomy enough to put a decent jumper underneath. It has pop tabs on the sides to pinch it in too.

PileOfBooks · 06/10/2021 11:09

I really want this coat. I am very large though so looking at the top end of the sizing and a bit worried I might look like a tent... but it looks so waterproof and covering and lovely...

I'm a apple shaped (all in the tummy) 24 and the 22 is fab on me. Fitted but not too tight.
lemonyfox · 06/10/2021 12:06

@BobbinThreadbare123 I'm really big boobed too so that was a concern as well! Good to know it's adjustable up there.

@PileOfBooks same, I carry all my weight in my middle so wondered about it looking tentlike too. BUT I've been dithering over this coat for ages so fuck it I'm gonna try it at least and see

@iloverainandrainbows so you'd recommend going a size down then?

If you go to the coat on the website www.seasaltcornwall.com/fleece-lined-waterproof-womens-janelle-coat and click on the size guide it gives the specific measurements of that coat for each size (rather than of the person it’s designed to fit.)

PileOfBooks · 06/10/2021 12:20

Ooooh I need to go into seasalt to see the colours then order in "big"!

There's a couple of other ones I like on the website too... I'd never normally spend this much but nearly did last year - and outdoorsy shops no longer go up to my size 😳

TheVanguardSix · 06/10/2021 12:22

Oh I love my Janelle coat! It is properly waterproof and has been one of my best investments!
I'm 5'10", slim, broad-shouldered, loooong arms.
I'm an 8-10 and the 10 is perfect on me. The arms are a teeny bit short but that is a problem for me with everything I own.
I would definitely not size down. For example, if you're a 14-16 and sometimes you're more a 16 than 14, I'd go with the 16. I'd go on the upper side of your sizing. If you're a 14 across the board, stick with 14, don't size up or down. HTH!

MarleneDietrichsSmile · 06/10/2021 14:09

I am a size 12/14, wear a 34D bra, and have the Janelle in a 14 and it’s roomy but not crazily so

I like my coats big as it looks so awful if they “sit” instead of “hang” imo

Aworldofmyown · 06/10/2021 15:34

Don't go down a size! You also don't need room for lots of layers, I find most of the time it's warm enough with a tshirt or shirt on. Best coat ever!

kinzarose · 06/10/2021 18:18

It's roomy and absolutely fab.

Bitofachinwag · 06/10/2021 20:44

Does anyone also have the Planthunter one? How do they compare?

BrilloPaddy · 06/10/2021 20:58

I've got the Planthunter one. It's very true size (I often have to go up a size with Seasalt for my hips), I bought in my usual size and it's roomy without being a tent. My only gripe is that the arms are a bit long..... I'm 5ft 6 so not exactly petite!

480Widdio · 06/10/2021 21:02

Seasalt sizes are unpredictable,I live by one of their outlet shops,I am always in there! I. Can be anything from a 10-16 in their clothes.

You can always order 2sizes and return one, their Customer Service is excellent.

I have quite long arms so that's good! Is it warm?
BrilloPaddy · 06/10/2021 21:49

Yes it's very toasty. It makes a bit of a rustling sound when you walk due to the waterproof coating, but it comes almost down to my knees and keeps my legs dry. I've got 2 spaniels and we walk in all weathers twice a day, so my coat gets a lot of use.

I use NikwaxTech wash every couple of months to keep it clean, especially in water, and you need to let it dry off after wearing. But it's the best coat I've ever owned.

lemonyfox · 07/10/2021 07:42

Do Seasalt sometimes do sales/discount codes, or will I be waiting a long time for one of those?

OP posts:
WrinklesShminkles · 07/10/2021 10:43

Sales yes, discount codes are very rare. If you sign up to emails they aren't too intrusive and also the best way to find out about sales or be sent an occasional code.

supercalifragilistic123 · 07/10/2021 10:48

They've got 30% blue light discount at the moment if you're eligible

TheVanguardSix · 07/10/2021 12:32

The level of warmth does amaze me. I didn't think it would stick with me year-round, but it does. It's the best dog walking coat ever! It's survived a lot of mud and rain. I think this will be my third autumn/winter coming up. It really is a great coat. Oh and the pockets are brilliant. Generous pockets!

lolliwillowes · 07/10/2021 13:04

Anyone, how is the hood on this, would it stay put in a gale? I hate baggy hoods that I can't manipulate or adjust!

lolliwillowes · 07/10/2021 13:06

AH sorry should have rtft, I see the Janelle has very long arms so that's me fucked.

lemonyfox · 07/10/2021 17:38

This has all been really useful, thank you 😊

Go for it. I bought it at a size 24 and took it on a trip to Antartica. It kept me warm, dry and was so comfortable. I think it’s a really stylish coat, with the dipped hem and the length really adds to keeping us warm and dry.

I have lost a lot of weight in the last year, so sold my size 24 on Ebay. I initially bought a different style from Seasalt, but it just wasn’t as nice as the Janelle in many ways (not least the fleece lined pockets), so I returned it and now have a new Janelle in a size 16.

In reply to the OP, I recommend going for your usual size.
