Wool or wool mix mini/maybe knee length skirts

I'm after a nice wool or wool mix mini or maybe knee length skirt. Anyone seen anything nice? Have been googling but not seen any which grab my attention.

Preferably brighter colour (SIL has a nice orange one) but open to other colours.

For actual wool or a decent mix ive only seen skirts at either Brora or House of Bruar (or whatever theyre called!) It's a bit depressing, but most regular stores, even those which stick a huge premium on claiming to be either 'artisanal' or made in UK are still riddled with polyester, and I don't like a sheen on winter clothing.

Ebay, which im not a fan of, is actually great for this. The items will be used though. Joules and Olive clothing sometimes do a wool mini, but more of a mixed fibre thing nowadays if any.

Good luck op, let us know if you locate any. I have been commiserating with a friend recently that we used to be able to find actual winter weight/fabric skirts on the high street, but no longer!

Hobbs normally have some

headinthecloudsnow · 05/10/2021 13:59

What size are you looking for? I have one I'm looking to sell if you're interested in second hand.

Boden had one last year. 100% wool but not lined. More of a circle/skater skirt though. It only came in navy or camel though. Might be worth checking Boden?

@Gonnagetgoing I have this one. It's a size 12 but I'd say a large 12. I'm a 10/12 and it's a little too roomy one me. No pressure Smile

Boden. And they are lined, normally.

Boden do (or used to do) short wool skirts using Moon fabric, which are plentiful on ebay. I also have a very nice orange Max Mara one which I found on ebay.

It’s lovely but sorry don’t think the tartan is for me, thanks though!

No problem at all!

The Boden Moon ones are often plain. I have a couple myself, and pattern free and lined. Not the finest quality tight woven wool, though. Ive had some from second hand shops over the years, but not often these days. In desperation, have a few made, in different fabrics you like. Skirts aren't difficult if you like a plain pencil or A line shape, so it shouldn't be tricky to find someone to make them.

Try Hobbs, looks like they have a few. May be a bit work style

@minipie - seen a few of the Hobbs ones - the checked ones I'm not really feeling but there's a nice lime green one too

I think this is the only one I'd wear (and maybe orange checked above) a lot of.

That's not bad actually! A bit red for me and large so I think too big but very nice.

A knitted skirt is a completely different garment to a lined wool skirt - much more stretchy and less structured (obviously).
Boden and Hobbs have done lots of wool mini skirts over the years and there are always plenty on ebay, look for "Abraham Moon" or "Moon" fabric for instance. They wear well so a good purchase secondhand. Laura Ashley used to do them as well.

NotMeNoNo · 06/10/2021 14:27

You could look for a Harris Tweed skirt - they aren't cheap (due to hand woven etc) but would last a lifetime. There are some Etsy sellers who make them.

I had a knitted skirt from Cos but it wasn't that flattering really - lovely orange colour though.
