I have so many gorgeous jackets/shoes/poncho type things and plan gorgeous outfits that I'd love to wear but they just don't work with my school-run-in-the-rain lifestyle so I end up wearing a waterproof feeling bleurgh! Soooo frustrating! Have nice enough waterproofs but not the same as a smart jacket. Just wanted to vent really!

I feel your pain, I always have visions of chic winter wear and wool coats, however I live in Lancashire and it will now rain here every day until April Sad

Helenlovescats · 01/10/2021 07:59

Oh me too -just off to London for my first proper escape in nearly two years and was planning on wearing some great (I hope!) new outfits but now realise I have NOTHING waterproof to wear over them and I have no idea how to style anything with a hood anyway Sad

Bouncebacker · 01/10/2021 08:06

I’m totally with you - I’ve just seen your post after posting my own asking for waterproof advice! Any suggestions?

My hair is also a disaster after a school run in the rain - any humidity and it flicks up like I should be working in a diner in the 1950s….

Bouncebacker, I have two Merrell waterproofs - a Wakefield which is below the knee and keeps me so dry with wellies, and a thigh length grey one which looks nicer but my legs get wet. Got both of them in the sale they're pretty pricey but they are proper waterproof. My pet hate is waist-length waterproof jackets on me - what about my legs?! Have waterproof trousers but they seem a bit much when just popping out and about.

My favourite is a floral new look knee length waterproof from about 10 years ago, it goes perfectly with my pink wellies. But sadly it's not waterproof anymore. Has anyone tried re-waterproofing? Does it work on cheapy fashion jackets?

I’ve been going round in circles on this for the last couple of years too. Last year I spend flipping ages researching a water proof or at least highly water resistant longline puffer and eventually found one from Cos last year. This year I’ve been focusing on a lightweight rain coat for the reasons you say above. The issue I have is that it needs to be either boxy short or maxi length to go with my figure and wardrobe. The mid thigh length that covers 90% of options just doesn’t work for me.
I really liked the cropped lulu lemon jacket but reluctantly admitted it was too cropped to be truly useful.
I love the look of the Stutterheim Opal Khaki long but it’s £££ and always out of stock
I spent a LOT of time looking at the long Rains coats but they were ££ and felt like a sad compromise against Stutterheim, colours were a bit meh. Also considered a Rains poncho but the length would have been off.
In the end I decided to spend a bit less and go for some colour and went for a RainKiss Poncho in “Digi Forest Camo” on the basis that it packs up so can be carried if not actually raining.
I’ve only worn it once so can’t comment on quality but I like the fit/look.
Massive caveat: I like the oversized look and when I recommended my Cos jacket on here it was universally mocked and widely considered to be an abomination 🤣

MistySkiesAfterRain · 01/10/2021 10:47

The Stutterheim is made out of the same material as my bike panniers.

Impenetrable 😂 Nice colour too.

Hello CCKB, I found your comment as was searching RainKiss. I love this whole thread as it echos all my thoughts, aspirations and woes! I’m 5’4” and really like the RainKiss poncho’s. I also like an oversized look but am wondering with my being 10 cms shorter than the model if it would be just tooooo oversized. However it would solve the issue of the not needing to don waterproof trousers when just popping out on school run etc.

I’m hoping you’re 5’2” and finding it a perfect fit Grin

Chocolatecoatedkettlebell · 05/10/2021 16:43

Hi, I’m 5’6 when I stand up straight and this is the length on me.
I’ve only worn it a couple of times but I’m loving the side split for accessing trouser pockets. And the hood stays up with the pull cord thing. So far so good!

Ignore the random rose pic 🧐

AdoptedBumpkin · 05/10/2021 18:58

I feel your pain. I'll be in big coats for a few months I expect.

MargosKaftan · 05/10/2021 19:08

I need a new waterproof too. However, im thinking of investing in some good umbrellas and wearing the wool coats. Sod it.

MrsD00 · 05/10/2021 20:18

Thanks so much for taking the trouble to show a pic, I really appreciate it! With you being 5’6”I imagine it’ll be down to my ankles!! So jealous of your extra inches! Beautiful rose too! Smile

Same boat, live in NW England and each year get excited about the idea of gorgeous suede boots, slouchy trench coats, wide-legged wool trousers...
Reality is I’m dressed head to toe in a combo of polyurethane, wet leaves and mud.

Tryingtogetitright · 06/10/2021 14:23

The sun is shining here today but it's freezing - perfect weather for my furry jacket (channeling my inner yeti!) - was such a treat to wear it!
I love your poncho!
