Everyday coat for commute - not puffy?

Looking for a coat which isn't super puffy, but it reasonably warm.

Needs to be water proof / shower proof. Not super smart but not dowdy either.

I'm quite booby, so I need something with a waist.

In either black, green or navy. Not camel or brown.

Has anyone seen anything which fits the bill?

I'm 5'10" and a size 18.

I'm about your size (16 and 5 11" very booby)and I have a didrikson coat. Waterproof warm black. It's not super stylish but it does have a waist.

I've always found a parka best for commuting. I remember the first year I caved and bought one (previously always wore smart wool coats) and the warmth and joy of not having to carry an umbrella 😁 You can get ones that cinch in at the waist. I'm shorter than you but same size and booby and I do think they're flattering.

Oh thanks for these! Yes, I was thinking parka...I've found a khaki, waterproof one in Mountain Warehouse, but I can't decide if I'm going to look cool, sort of military chic with my black ankle boots and khaki coat or...as if I should be out on the fells 🤔

It's this one^^

I've ordered it to try on. I think it's ok for commute? Not super stylish or smart, but that's ok for my commute. And it's waterproof and has some padding for warmth.

Also seems to have a bit of a waist.

Have a look at the protected species winter parka . It's speedy but it's fabulous.

It also comes in Navy?

Thanks StC! Sadly not available in my size in the navy colour, which I also like.

Is there a reason you need to look particularly smart while travelling to and from work?!

I'd go for the most practical, comfortable, waterproof option if I were you. It doesn't matter if it isn't 'office smart' as you won't be wearing it once you walk through the door!

The Mountain Warehouse coat looks pretty good. I wear something similar as I have a long walk and it's often in the rain. I add waterproof overtrousers and a waterproof backpack cover if I don't want to bother with an umbrella.

But if it's REALLY wet, I stop caring entirely what other people think and wear this, with really high quality comfortable wellies. :-)

I saw this on YStyleireland on IG last week and thought it looked very smart, as the belt is a proper "keep you in" belt and also looks quite glam.

It's quite long but if you're 5'10 you'll be fine (so is she I believe, or 5'11). If you want to check it out on her it's in her River Island highlights towards the very end.

blib, no, I really don't have to look smart on commute, but would like to look not too crap or shabby.

I love you coveralls! Do you have the bright yellow ones?

That's lovely Elspeth, although it may be a little bit too puffy for me, even with the belt. I'm quite broad so puff can add bulk which I really don't need. Also not keen on shiny puff jackets on myself. That looks a tiny bit shimmery I think.

Regatta has a lot of options and smart looking parkas as well

MistySkiesAfterRain · 30/09/2021 21:29

Hobbs waterproof trench coat? Think they have it in green and camel. Hard wearing fabric.

ScumbagDave · 30/09/2021 21:53

I have actually just had to sell a lovely trench coat from COS, as I never wore it! A beautiful coat though.

Regatta might be a good place to look actually, thank you.

I got a fab one from regatta last year. Thermal lining. Not puffy. Bit of furry lining in the hood and along the cuffs and zip line. Khaki coloured. Love it.

supperlover · 02/10/2021 00:20

Seasalt Janelle is brilliant. Not too padded but warm, waterproof and a variety of colours.

Nomorefuckstogive · 03/10/2021 09:36

I like the M&S hooded one in khaki. I didn’t find it too puffy, it’s lovely.
