T Shirt of Doom - help

After mat leave followed by lockdown, it’s now 2 years since I’ve been in the office - bar the odd pop in afternoon. I’ve put weight on and feel awful - I’m actively in the process of losing 5 stone.

Wardrobe choices are minimal and revolve around slim fit (ha) jeans, billowy top and knee length black cardigan to basically hide the thigh part of the jeans. Bare arms are an absolute no go.

Return to work is approaching and now, hideously I’ve got to attend an event where I’ll be right out of my comfort zone and I’m informed need to wear a branded t shirt top. It’ll be a cheap clingy promo type thing and I’ll look like shit. It’s super professional (despite the t shirt attire) so don’t think I’ll get away with sizing right up and wearing tent like.

It’s with jeans probably but they’ll give me a massive muffin top so thinking I need more flattering trousers.. but what? Softer waisted, ankle grazing type?

Might also lose/ claim wrong size on the shirt and try for a longer top and soft blazer look?

First world problem clearly but I’m in such a confidence crisis this is actually keeping me awake at night Hmm

Ugh. Link doesn't work. It was to an all in one shapewear underwear thing.

MichelleScarn · 29/09/2021 13:24

What colour is the tshirt? A long sleeved, longer line of same/contrasting colour underneath as you have hives with some fabric?..

Jumpalicious · 29/09/2021 13:27

Oh you poor thing. My trick is to wear a T-shirt under the clingy top, it somehow smoothes out the unfortunate lines. Also, aim to make your makeup/hair as good as possible. Trousers, have a browse in your size on John Lewis and order a few pairs? Don’t rely on losing loads of weight! I can’t write any more since a stupid great ad is covering the entire page…

What size and shape are you op? I was an 18 but am now a 16 hourglass and I quite like boyfriend jeans. Not too loose and baggy and not too tight. Keep the denim a dark shade. I wouldn’t go too big on the T shirt because it can make you look bigger than you are. You could French tuck the front into the waistband to show a bit of shape. Then over the top I’d go for a dark blazer which you can just wear open. Make sure you can see your wrists a little bit. The attached picture are M&S jeans - not exciting but also not expensive while you’re losing weight.

Oh sorry you didn’t want jeans. Blush

ChristmasPlannier · 29/09/2021 13:31

I suggest shaping underwear/vest. Makes a big difference when needing to wear a cheap/tight top

Bontanics · 29/09/2021 14:01

High waist palazzo pants. Tuck the tshirt in.

whiteonesugar · 29/09/2021 14:11

I would say high waisted wide legged trousers, t shirt tucked in and maybe a blazer or waterfall style jacket or cardigan over the top

Thank you, all suggestions really welcome. To answer a few questions, I’m 5.4, carrying all the weight on my stomach and thighs, super conscious of the after effects of 10lb baby pregnancy, my stomach is a disaster area. To French tuck I’d need to be in really skimming trousers. I was avoiding wide leg thinking I’d look super short as will be in flats, might have a rethink.
