I’m crippled with fear of getting it wrong and standing out like a lemon. So nice resort wedding in Portugal in October. Dress code formal.
I’m pale pale white 5’6 classic pear - dress size 10 usually. I don’t think I should wear red due to brides heritage. So purple or navy or green maybe. No pastels I look Ill. Spend around £100. What should I wear?!

Some lovely dresses - tea dress and longer styles.

mrssmiling · 27/09/2021 23:21

The prints are beautiful - you might stand out, but in a good way! 😁

MrsPear · 28/09/2021 06:59

Ah now thank you - you have all confirmed I’m going too formal.

I personally think that the first two suggestions are much too informal. I like the coast one.

inappropriateraspberry · 28/09/2021 07:16

How warm/cold will it be in Portugal in October?
Would long sleeves be better? I also think first 2 are too casual. There should be lots of deeper Qi tee colours coming in now that would look good against pale skin. I'm thinking a deep green.
Do you want long or short dress?

LadyDancealot · 28/09/2021 07:19

Think about shoes as well - a resort in Portugal is likely to involve cobbles/sand/longish walk from ceremony to reception area. A lot of those resorts have boardwalks - not a good combo with a high heel.

LastToBePicked · 28/09/2021 07:31

I don’t think first suggestion is formal enough

Something like this maybe?

I love this dress but have no reason to buy it. It needs accessories though

This, with a white or coloured silk shirt underneath. They have the size 10 available.

EdmontinaDonsAutumnalHues · 28/09/2021 08:37

Oh, sorry, wasn’t paying proper attention. Not available in a 10 any more.

Amdone123 · 28/09/2021 08:42

@mrssmiling, those dresses are so lovely. They are right up my street. I've got to buy the red gypsy dress. I love dresses like that for holidays. Thanks!

MrsPear · 28/09/2021 11:58

@LastToBePicked now I like that - any suggestions on what I can throw over to keep warm at night? And shoes ?

So I think florals rather than lace or sequins. It’s a day to night affair anyway …

LastToBePicked · 28/09/2021 13:19

I think I’d wear a short fluffy/angora cardigan or shrug in pale cream or fuchsia.

LastToBePicked · 28/09/2021 13:19

I’m no good on shoes!

MrsPear · 28/09/2021 14:51

Plenty to think about in the next week thank you everyone especially @LastToBePicked

I don’t know what your usual style is like OP, but we have the same dress size and body shape and these dresses are what I would wear.

CurbsideProphet · 28/09/2021 15:24

I been to Portugal in October a few years ago and it was still late 20sC in the day and warm in the evening, so maybe keep that in mind regarding fabric.

CurbsideProphet · 28/09/2021 15:25

*I went to Portugal 🙄
