Dressing for a funeral

I'm a bit of a casual person and spend all day in jeans and jumpers add to not having been shopping in forever (thanks COVID) I'm struggling to find something to wear to a close family members funeral.

I was hoping someone more knowledgeable would be able to offer some help, I'm struggling to find something classy and funeral-y enough.

I'm a size 14 and broad. I tent to suit V necks as they detract from the shoulder width 🤣. Early 30s. I was thinking black dress or jumpsuit but I struggle a bit with jumpsuits as my body is long and they don't sit right.

Any help ? Confused

I wouldn't wear a jumpsuit for a funeral personally. I'd go for a black dress or trousers and top

Something like this would be ideal -

dress

Amdone123 · 27/09/2021 17:58

@Ozberry, love that dress.

Is it traditional funeral dress or not? The only funerals I've been to have insisted on no black.

If in doubt, a black shift or Jersey dress would suffice.

It is rare for mourners to be in full black. Wear this under your most formal coat even if the coat is not black. My funeral coat for years was camel and served me well.

That is lovely- thank you

I don't think a jumpsuit is suitable for a funeral. Anything semi smart should be OK. I'm sorry for your loss

I always pop a bright coloured scarf in my bag just incase I didn't hear that they wanted people to wear a bright colour.

Just wear something dark. If you're halfway smart for work your darkeswork outfit.

I have learned to do this even when I have heard the instruction to wear something bright. I wear normal funeral attire with something bright I came easily remove. I've been caught out too many times when I'm the only person who followed instructions!
