Lip balm more hydrating than Reve De Miel?

Tuesdayschildisfairofface · 27/09/2021 17:26

My lips are always dry. I’ve tried Carmex, body Shop hemp, paw paw, khiels, lansinoh, neils yard,Burts bees. The best so far is the Reve de Miel in the little jar. But even then they’re still dry. Has anyone found something that really hydrates lips rather than just sits on the surface? Is that even possible?

Indeed Labs Hydraluron + Tinted Lip Treatment might be worth a shot? I've got the red one and it's very moisturising. And Lanolips Tinted Balm too.
Also ridiculously expensive but VENeffect Anti-Aging Lip Treatment works wonders for me. I kind of didn't have want it to as the price is so stupid bit treated myself when SpaceNK had an offer on.

Usernameucreate · 27/09/2021 23:48

Vaseline.

DukeOfEarlGrey · 27/09/2021 23:49

Lanolips overnight mask (basically a heavy lip balm) and Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream lip balm version both work well. Neither is cheap but I do think they trump the others you mention.

lolliespalooza · 27/09/2021 23:56

Agree with Elizabeth Arden 8 hour lip balm

Snoopsnoggysnog · 28/09/2021 00:05

Definitely EA 8 hour cream.

Feelingpoorlysick · 28/09/2021 00:09

I suffered for years until I found the jack black lip balm.
It's aimed at men I think but I swear by it.

Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm SPF25 www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00EXW3X0U/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_840GJV8QW2NAPKECAHCY?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

People rave about 8 hour cream but I found it really greasy and didn't do anything!

tofuschnitzel · 28/09/2021 00:13

Nipple cream is really good for dry lips. It's much more cost effective than Lanolips.

Tuesdayschildisfairofface · 28/09/2021 06:14

Thanks all. I’ve tried the nipple cream but it didn’t seem to help any more than the others. I think I might have to throw more money at this. I’ll try the Jack Black one first as it’s more affordable and hope it can sort it out.

I wish Vaseline helped but it just doesn’t.

Nivea blue pot cream, use it overnight!

dontgobaconmyheart · 28/09/2021 11:48

Maybe look further at the cause if nothing seems to work.

Dehydration makes my lips terribly dry, as did a low thyroid. Even irritation from the toothpaste I use can cause it when I try new brands etc though it sounds daft on the face of it.

Otherwise maybe exfoliating the lips before applying lip balm for better absorption. I use cherry carmax and find it fairly decent (the pot not the sticks which I find do nothing) but I see you've tried carmex. Hope you find something OP!

Tryingtogetitright · 28/09/2021 12:11

I like the No 7 protect & perfect lip care - it's more a moisturiser texture rather than a greasy one.

It made my lips feel lovely but I do find that when I stop using it they feel worse than ever - it's like they become reliant on it.

Hope you find something that works for you!

RedRosie · 28/09/2021 12:15

I actually read once (ref a PP) that the more of this stuff you use, the more you need to use it. Have you tried not using it at all or only overnight for a few weeks?

gladyoucame · 28/09/2021 12:18

Eucerin or La Roche Posay? Both from skincare 'brands' although I do like Reve de Miel TBH as well.

WellTidy · 28/09/2021 12:22

I’ve tried lots of the products on this thread and the only product that I buy now is Aquaphor. It really penetrates my lips and heals them and I wouldn’t be without it. I’ve always bought it on Amazon for about £4.

Kranz78 · 28/09/2021 12:58

Okeeffe's lip repair is the only one I've found that works, £3 on amazon

Lavendersquare · 28/09/2021 16:37

I really like the EOS ones or simple vasoline.

timesachangin · 28/09/2021 16:43

This probably isn't helpful but I've suffered with dry lips my whole life - best I tried was the reve miel (nuxe, right) - until I had lip fillers and they were soft for about 6 months with no cream needed! I do t know why it works like that but for me it was a cure and with the nuxe stuff £10+ a pop, it wasn't too too extravagant!

FeelinSpendy · 28/09/2021 16:44

I really recommend Laneige lip sleeping mask - it’s very good and I just use it like a lip balm. They had some in TK Maxx the other day.

babouchette · 28/09/2021 16:48

It is unbelievably expensive but the Creme de la Mer one is extremely effective. I bought some in desperation at the airport after a skiing holiday reduced my lips to wind chapped shreds and the relief was incredible.

Lansinoh is also good and much cheaper!!

Doglicks · 28/09/2021 17:22

I find if my lip balm isn't working and my lips are really dry its usually because i am dehydrated and not drinking nearly enough water during the day.

TheFormidableMrsC · 28/09/2021 17:54

O'Keeffes. Magic stuff and costs a couple of quid.

Tuesdayschildisfairofface · 28/09/2021 19:02

Is the Laneige very fragranced Feelinspendy ? I am going into town tomorrow and I’m going to try the La Roche Posay Citoplast or Aquaphor next i think. If they don’t sort me out then I’ll move on to some of the other recommendations.

La Roche posay cicapast lips

rbe78 · 29/09/2021 09:45

@RedRosie

I actually read once (ref a PP) that the more of this stuff you use, the more you need to use it. Have you tried not using it at all or only overnight for a few weeks?
My DH was adamant that this is true - I've always had dry lips and was bitching about not being able to get my favourite lip balm. I rolled my eyes at the time, but did give cutting down my lip balm use a try anyway.

And he was right (dammit)! I try to limit my use to once a day now (when I do my make up), and my lips have gone from cracked and peeling to much smoother now. I can't do away with lip balm totally though, especially in the winter.

(Incidentally, I find the Neal's Yard lip balm the best)

WellTidy · 29/09/2021 09:51

@Tuesdayschildisfairofface I am telling you - it’s the aquaphor that you want. I promise it is. I have my tube to my 80yo dad who uses zero products beyond body wash (which couples as shampoo), shaving foam, razor and toothbrush/toothpaste. And he loves it. It sorted his lips right out.
