Birthday present for son's girlfriend

DS2 and his girlfriend have just moved in together. We have only met her once, she is lovely. It is her birthday very soon and we would like to send her a present, up to around £50 but are a bit stuck for ideas. She is 26, has a quirky sort of boho/vintage look, she works in IT. I was thinking probably lovely bath stuff ( I do know she insisted the flat had a bath, so she must like a soak) a necklace or an accessory - scarf? I've looked through all the usual places I buy presents but I haven't seen anything that really stands out - any ideas gratefully received.

Bath bombs and candles are always a winner. My MIL also gets me face masks and expensive creams. You don’t want to put the bar too high because then you’ll be stuck for Xmas!

cheapskatemum · 27/09/2021 11:51

Lush bath bombs get my vote.

LizziesTwin · 27/09/2021 11:54

Not bath bombs as they’re a pig to clean up afterwards.

Similar age and look - I'm very choosy about what I use and would feel awful if gifted something I wasn't keen on but that so much thought had gone into! Can you ask your son what her favourite products are?

LaBellina · 27/09/2021 12:12

Anthropologie gift voucher

Some luxury bath salts or bath oil from Jo Malone, Chanel etc

Fandangoes · 27/09/2021 12:18

Jo Malone do a lovely gift card set that has little testers in so she could try some different scents on herself before using the goft voucher to buy whichever she likes best?

ExConstance · 27/09/2021 12:21

Thank you for the ideas. I wanted to send something that wasn't just a token but obviously want it to be something she would like. DS himself is very fond of a Lush bathbomb or two, so he will be getting some for his birthday.

I bought one if this raw birthstone necklaces recently, she loves it! There are loads like this on NOTHS.

An Etsy gift certificate might also be a good idea. They have so many lovely things and if she loves boho style there are many lovely things to choose from on there.

SeasonFinale · 27/09/2021 12:32

Lush bathbombs are gross and suitable if she was about 12.

I would avoid those if I were you. They are very marmite. You either love them or hate them!

Floisme · 27/09/2021 12:34

If you've only met her once, I wouldn't worry about keeping it neutral and I also wouldn't base it on anything she was wearing - she might have been toning down her usual style for the occasion!
Something bath-y sounds a good bet and is well observed. Are cinema or restaurant vouchers still around? Or did you notice anything she likes in the way of food or drink, e.g. luxury brand chocolate? coffee? tea? cocktails?

Jumpingintosummer · 27/09/2021 12:38

How about a voucher for a restaurant near their new new home?
Voucher for local shopping centre then she can treat herself and give you clues for next time when she thanks you and her ells you what she purchased

That’s a nice range and the sets are slightly over your budget but you could choose a few individual items.

Much nicer than Lush.

TeaMeBasil · 27/09/2021 12:43

What about a scarf or short kimono (can wear with jeans) from One Hundred Stars?

DidgeDoolittle · 27/09/2021 12:49

I would buy Laura Mercier bath stuff (can't remember proper name, sorry). It's in a jar and smells divine.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 27/09/2021 12:54

Why not ask DS what perfume she wears or what bath products she likes?

PeaceLily2000 · 27/09/2021 12:57

Honey bath? The one with the honey stick thingy? If so, then I second that! So luxurious!

Kimono from one hundred stars sounds like a winner to me!
Rosiiiiie · 27/09/2021 13:15

Defs not lush bath bombs. There’s much nicer brands out there.
What about an asos voucher?

HollowTalk · 27/09/2021 13:20

I would ask your son for hints - I wouldn't just give her a perfume or something like that without knowing what she likes. Why not give her a voucher and see what she buys, then you have a clue for Christmas?

NigellaSeed · 27/09/2021 13:26

Don't get a voucher for a local restaurant, "mil" always gets us something like that, and it's a lovely thought, but we put them away, get busy, forget about them and then they expire - I wish I knew how to politely stop her buying them, it's such a waste.

I like the Jo Malone gift set idea.

Shirleyphallus · 27/09/2021 13:29

These are always recommended on here but I think they’re awful, they scream middle aged mum, I’d have been gutted to get one at age 26 then feel obliged to keep it

A voucher is a good idea!

BeaLola · 27/09/2021 14:28

Not lush Bath bomb

Why not ask your son to take a couple of photos and send them to you of her perfume/make up - would give you a good idea of what she uses and then you could buy the Bath oil etc based on that

Anthropologie voucher

Chanel compact mirror

Neom portable diffuser thing
