Office job, management role. You are in your late 30s / early 40s.

How officey? As in the sort of place where most senior folk are in suits, or is it more casual? And what do you feel most comfortable in - are you someone who gravitates to dresses/skirts, or do you feel more you in trousers?

Wear something that you really like, whatever it is - your nicest skirt/trousers/blazer/shoes. Don't wear things that make you uncomfortable. I struggle to wear shirts, for instance, because they just aren't me. I'd want comfortable smart shoes like loafers for day 1. If you're wearing a skirt or dress and tights, get nice new tights.

What did you wear to the interview? Could you wear that and remove the jacket if you feel too overdressed?

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 27/09/2021 11:08

Another thing - wear layers so that if it turns out that they have the heating whacked right up you can take something off.

These are jeans but you could replace with black trousers if it's not the sort of place you could wear jeans. And I wouldn't wear trainers on day 1 unless I was very sure that they would be ok - I'd wear these with pointy-toed boots or flats.

Or this
How do you make images appear rather than just the link, ThePotatoCroquette?

Have you already got a vibe of the office style OP?
There is a huge difference in our management style of work wear depending on the team where I work.
Personally before you decide I would, if you are able, to check out the general style to dee how formal ir casual it is and then go from there.
I've made the mistake of being overdressed on my first day a couple of times over the years!

Thank you!

Ooh great suggestions thank you.

Interviews have been over zoom so my first day will be the first time in the office.

It's not as corporate as my previous roles but I want to make good impression and be smart.

Layers is a good shout as have no idea how hot / cold it is.

I have some stylish flat shoes which I could wear (don't know how much walking around will be involved)

@TooExtraImmatureCheddar

I save it to my phone, then go to the paper clip icon at the bottom, then a bit pops out with a + sign and that takes me to my saved photos. Not sure how it works if not using the app though

SapphosRock · 27/09/2021 11:21

ThePotatoCroquette your first picture is very much my style and the shoes are practically identical. Thank you for that! I haven't worked in an office since pre pandemic and worried I'm completely out of touch.

I have only just started going into the office and was recruited during lockdown. My previous role was very business smart but this is more business casual. I hate my old clothes but I have a lot so can’t justify buying more.

My uniform has been black skinny jeans or trousers, blouses and flats either ballet or brogues. I have a cardigan or blazer if it’s chilly. Now that it’s getting cooler, I’ll probably wear more wide leg or chinos with jumpers, shorter skirts or dresses with tights and boots which are ankle or knee high. Zero skin will be on display once it’s cold as I freeze even if it’s 18 degrees Grin
