Wardrobe clearout

I've had a big wardrobe clear out last week, prompted by small storage / need to declutter, and desire to buy less / make things simpler.

Half a bin liner of binnable (unsellable/undonatable) items. About 30-40 items to sell. Another full bin liner of clothes that I'm keeping for visiting family who have an enthusiastic dog so clothes always risk getting holes in-I'll take them next time I visit. Two full bags that I am taking to charity.

I'm shocked/embarrased how much there was. Also slightly nervous to have pared it back to about 40-50 items-many of which need replacing. I haven't bought many clothes in the last 5 years. It will take a good while to sell things so I guess room for mind changing.

Anyone else done similar? How do you avoid rebuying the same amount and ending up in the same situation?

The things that you’ve earmarked binnable, these can still go to charity rather than in the actual bin. If you mark the bag as rags the charity can sell them for textile recycling, it can be anything, old pants etc.

I have done similar, over about 5 years. I had accumulated far too much over my life! I’m getting close to having just what I need and now stick to looking at all of my clothes together and trying to just buy in the gaps. Weight loss (lack of!) is hindering me though.

It does feel so nice when you can see what you have and you like it all!

Thanks for the encouragement. That's a good idea about looking at all of the clothes together. I think I'll have a look for capsule wardrobe inspiration/think.

I never had a capsule wardrobe. My style would best be described as jeans and a top/trainers. Colour, cut, texture are important. I'm trying to do grown up versions of what I like really, so changing trainers for loafers, tucking tops in, turning jeans up etc.

Bit stuck as like you need to lose weight, and tone up, so am loathe to buy much for 6-8 weeks while I do that.

Still got to finish the clearing though! I keep finding more bags of things I'd sorted previously. I have got a bit obsessed with finishing it!
