They seem to be everywhere on the John Lewis website etc ... and on the gift link email they sent me. What is the current opinion?

Personally I can't stand them.

were for middle age folk then got trendy with younger group now common (IMVHO)

Enid · 06/12/2007 11:41

chav

bodiddly · 06/12/2007 11:43

I did wonder whether it was the case - just like with Burberry ...

brandnewhelsy · 06/12/2007 11:43

Blimmin' everywhere and, therefore, Common. IMO.

mintydixcharrington · 06/12/2007 11:44

I've bought one for my nanny for xmas (she was flicking through a JL catalogue and pointed one out she really liked)
I don't like them personally but I'm not sure they are "chav" whatever that means
Hey ho, what do I know, each to his own

5GoldenFIMBOs · 06/12/2007 11:44

I don't mind the messenger style ones. They are not so in your face.

They are the Ugg boot of the handbag world.

bodiddly · 06/12/2007 11:45

good good ..it would seem that we all agree. I was looking for a briefcase/laptop bag in leather but couldnt find anything I liked - I don't mind the design of some of theirs but def don't want the association.

mintydixcharrington · 06/12/2007 11:45

oh poo. is she going to hate it now? (she was looking at them a few months ago...)
darn darn

brandnewhelsy · 06/12/2007 11:46

Ah, now, I was GOING to say some of their laptop bags are really nice. Take the dog label off?

TheBlonde · 06/12/2007 11:46

not chav
a bit middle aged though

Iota · 06/12/2007 11:47

chav ?!? I've always thought that they look rather fun

I don't own one though

bodiddly · 06/12/2007 11:47

has anyone seen anything similar and hopefully less expensive?

OP posts:
Iota · 06/12/2007 11:47

aha TheBlonde - I am middle-aged - perhaps that's why I like them

bodiddly · 06/12/2007 11:48

to be honest I have never really understood the point of labels (it is like the leather bit on timberlands or kickers) ... I just want to cut them off - but then again are you paying lots of money for the label in the first place. I am not fussed about a make I just want a nice looking, decent sizes bag

ABudafulSightWereHappyTonight · 06/12/2007 11:49

I don't think they are 'chav' but I can't say I like them.

MyEye · 06/12/2007 11:51

I really like their across the body bags. After much scouting, I'm asking for one for xmas like this but in a dark brown
Am so secure in self, don't care what the rest of you think

BahHunkerBug · 06/12/2007 11:51

Grim.

MyEye · 06/12/2007 11:52

I will most definitely be removing the dog tag though

Iota · 06/12/2007 11:53

just the thing to brighten up a grey winter's day

bodiddly · 06/12/2007 11:53

aha MyEye so you do care!

OP posts:
MyEye · 06/12/2007 11:54

Yeah, I'm nobody's walking billboard, that's for sure

bodiddly · 06/12/2007 11:55

can't say I blame you

OP posts:
Snaf · 06/12/2007 11:58

Don't know if they're 'chav'. They're most certainly twee, though. I imagine they are bought by the same women who order white wine spritzers in pubs.

fleacircus · 06/12/2007 11:59

Look at it. Decide if you like it. If you do, it's nice. If you don't, possibly it's because you're far too sophisticated to like something that the lower social orders might also buy, or maybe it's just not to your taste.

dressedupnowheretogotilxmas · 06/12/2007 12:00

i have a little purse i bought off ebay its a second but i liked it so i bidded for it it was leather and cheap so hey
