They seem to be everywhere on the John Lewis website etc ... and on the gift link email they sent me. What is the current opinion?

Radley not chav but very Middle Class and popular.

Earlybird · 06/12/2007 19:46

I've never owned one, but think they appear to be good, practical bags. If I do every buy one, I shall remove the 'dog tag' though, as it is definitely not my style. But I am an anti-logo sort of gal.

NomDePlume · 06/12/2007 19:46

lol @ "zip pocket of their tracksuit"

Earlybird · 06/12/2007 19:46

'ever buy one'

lizandlulu · 06/12/2007 19:48

i dont mind being middle class. i work for a living, and enjoy spending my money on something a little more special. just cant (and wont) afford to spend £600 on something like a chloe.
would def branch out if i won the lottery though!!

paulaplumpbottom · 06/12/2007 19:49

Maybe if you are over 60

iCodMummyKissingSantaClaus · 06/12/2007 19:49

i thinkt he fact that they are soldby JL says a lot tbh

meglet · 06/12/2007 19:53

They are very dull, possibly granny-ish and very overpriced. Monsoon and Topshop do far better 'expensive' handbags.

dirtylilminx · 06/12/2007 19:55

I love Radley handbags, i was so obsessed last year that i actually got a Radley dog tattoo on my stomache!

Maidamess · 06/12/2007 19:56

My mother is collecting the whole set as an 'investment and heirloom' for my ds and my niece. Gawd.

iCodMummyKissingSantaClaus · 06/12/2007 19:56

heriloom?
tattos
fark me you are all metalists

paulaplumpbottom · 06/12/2007 19:57

If you want investment pieces Lulu Guiness is the way to go.

Maidamess · 06/12/2007 19:59

Excuse me, MrsCod, I'm no mentalist. Can't stand the blimmin things. Would rather have the cash, as an 'heirloom'

I would rather have ten H and m or new look bags

lizandlulu · 06/12/2007 20:01

but the signature bags, if kept in good condition, do actually hold and increase in price, as they are limited edition.

MrsCarrot · 07/12/2007 08:36

Earlybird - do you mean people don't remove the dog tag?? I gave mine to the baby and he threw it out of the pram.

I love Lulu Guiness bags. I got a fab one from a vintage market a year ago covered with crystal beading, it looks amazing in the light.

MrsCarrot · 07/12/2007 08:37

I suppose if people leave the tags on then they are more recognisable and could be seen as common. It didn't occur to me to leave it on.

DarthVader · 07/12/2007 12:24

cringey

Earlybird · 07/12/2007 14:26

MrsCarrot - aren't the 'dog tags' made from leather? For some reason, I thought so and therefore assumed they were not meant to be a 'throwaway' tag. I have seen people who leave them on the bags...

seeker · 07/12/2007 14:36

These 'statement' bags are fine if they are a bit battered and old . Not so good if new - a bit footballers wife IMHO!

MrsCarrot · 07/12/2007 16:18

Earlybird - it was leather, yes, but I didn't think it was meant to stay on and I gave it to the baby.

I had to send it back anyway as the popper broke. Maybe I will choose a different one if they are considered so fogey/dull/chav/cringey etc.

Blondilocks · 07/12/2007 21:25

I don't really like dogs, & tbh they aren't particularly exciting looking ...

webchick · 08/12/2007 00:02

I have 3 Radley grab bags, one of which I am a it bored with but the other 2 I like. I also have a tula bag (which is owned by Radley). I think they are well-made, long lasting and quality. A few people admire one in particular.

mumof2teenboys · 08/12/2007 06:57

I have a radley messenger bag in tan . I love it, its big enough for my crap important stuff! Its easy to carry, no straps falling off shoulders and it looks better now its a bit bashed around the edges.
