How to dress this down?

I recently bought this dress, it's amazingly flattering on my squishy size 18-20 body (much better than the pics would suggest!)

Hell Bunny Patricia Dress

And such a bargain too that I bought both colours.

I wore the black one with heels recently and felt fabulous. With a bit of dressing down I think either black or green could work for the office- is it just a case of wearing flats? Would tan wedges go with both?

Love the dress it’s gorgeous!

Maybe some flat boots, either a slouchy mid calf or knee high. A brown boot would look great with the green too.

I think it’d depend how dressy the wedges are.

What about mixing in some casual textures? A cream/blush pink chunky knit cardigan, a leather belt, leather/denim jacket (weather permitting!).

I’m sure you’ll look wonderful @RobertClementHughes

Ooh yes boots- the model wearing the black dress has ankle boots on and I have some similar to this that could work?

They might be better with a small heel as them is a couple of inches below the knee on me (good for hiding varicose veins but might be a bit matronly with flats!)

Is it very low cut? I love it but I'm top heavy!

Lasttimeneveragain · 22/09/2021 12:35

I wear stuff like this in the office. Am I overdressed? Perhaps a lower heel would work.

RobertClementHughes · 22/09/2021 12:39

@NotMyCat The v does come down fairly low but covers my full cup bra fine (both cups themselves and band)- so shows the middle of my cleavage but not too much actual boob if that makes sense!

Thanks! I'll have a look, just need to decide what size

RobertClementHughes · 22/09/2021 12:42

@Lasttimeneveragain workwear for my job seems to have changed since lockdown, men still do suit/shirt/no tie mainly but women have def got a bit more casual. I actually liked wearing smarter stuff to the office before and am struggling with the new normal! I can always find posh stuff to wear/supercasual schlepping about/school run stuff but the middle ground has always been tricky.

@NotMyCat I ordered 2XL and for my 18-20 frame it's perfect. It does have a bit of stretch Wink

There is a zip at the back but I don't need to undo it to get it on.

Sold! I have gone for the green as I'm a redhead
Plan to wear it with a black cardigan, tights and ankle boots or some t bar heels I have for work

RobertClementHughes · 22/09/2021 12:52

Redhead here too :) actually I have some apple green tbars that might work, and thinking of maybe a superbright patterned scarf, zingy colours always make me feel less formal and I love brights.

This would be gorgeous but oh my god the price...

Why would you need to dress it down it’s not exactly dressed up
Imo?

RobertClementHughes · 22/09/2021 14:08

Because people are all different and have varying standards of what dressed up is.

Trinny did a whole thing about detachable collars and dickies (yes! Laugh it up) and you could get a whole wardrobe of them for this dress, or a bodysuit with a collar. (Imagines gorgeous retro Peter Pan style with cherries or poodles)

carolinesbaby · 22/09/2021 14:29

@RobertClementHughes what started my search for green t-bars was when the heel finally fell of a much loved pair of Mary Janes..... the exact ones in your post. Which I could find something similar now, I must have bought them 20 years ago.
