Hi everyone - I think I've having some sort of clothes-identity crisis. I'm 42 and have been back at work for almost a year after having my toddler, and most of that year has been working from home. I have a new job that involves travel to the office once a week and I HATE all my old work clothes. Time for a refresh. But I don't know where to look! Some suggestions would be welcome. Here's what I think I need and some info that might help:

I'm slim (size 8-10) but have d-cup boobs and curvy hips
Clothes need to wear well and not crease, as I'm sitting on a train for four hours
Clothes need to look nice with flat shoes as heels are a bad idea when I'm travelling
I like midi dresses, and wrap dresses
I want good quality that doesn't cost a lot (I know, I know . . . Grin)

Where should I shop? Mint Velvet? M&S?

Oh - the dress code is "business casual" but it's a start-up with lots of young people who wear trendy clothes. I am neither young nor trendy, so I'm trying to find appropriate attire!

Boden richmond trousers are very good. Maybe that with a cashmere jumper or a blazer? And ankle boots?

Laaaaa · 22/09/2021 12:36

Wrap dresses are my go to smart, comfortable and dress up or down

RedPandaFluff · 22/09/2021 13:02

Is cashmere a difficult fabric to care for, @AnaViaSalamanca? I associate it with dry cleaning and faff . . . !

Where can I get nice quality wrap dresses, @Laaaaa - any you can recommend?

Thank you both!

Uniqlo smart stretch trousers

They also have some lovely tweedy suit jackets in at the moment that will be nice for autumn. I wear a thick strapped vest underneath so I don’t get too warm.

Laaaaa · 22/09/2021 17:40

@Suprima where do you ge wide strap vests from? I need some preferably tight ones

I’m a similar shape and age. I second the Boden Richmond trousers - try eBay if you a lower price to try them out first. I also wear a fair bit of H&M (blouses) and uniqlo (jumpers) with the odd New Look or M&S midi dress thrown in.

Thank you - going to have a look at these suggestions now.

How do the Boden Richmond trousers fit? I'm between 8 and 10 so I never know which size to get, it seems to vary from shop to shop!

@RedPandaFluff I’m about an 11 in M&S and Next and and comfortable in a Boden 12 trouser.

MaverickDanger · 22/09/2021 22:47

I find Boden big and I’m quite hippy.

I’ve picked up a lot of stuff recently from Vinted - a lot of people aren’t going back to the office so I’ve got Reiss, Hobbs, Jaeger etc all with tags for under £15 recently.

Mango has some nice bits in usually. Struggling to find decent weight jersey dresses though in colours that aren’t just black or frumpy patterns.
