Shoes for a wedding

I've been invited to a wedding and it's been a few years since I've been to one. Do people still wear heels to weddings? Since it's an autumn wedding, should I wear a proper coat or a short jacket?

I have lots of dresses from weddings down through the years so I'll be able to wear one of those, I think (even though I'm tempted to buy something new Grin). Thank you.

I think it depends on the venue. If the ceremony and the reception are in the same place you will need a coat to get there but probably take it off straight away and not need it again till you leave, if you already have a decent one then I wouldn't bother buying as new one. If it's a church then you could need something for the duration of the ceremony and for mingling outside afterwards and a jacket or smart coat might be more useful. Heels are definitely still worn to weddings but as you are in them for a long time I would go with something a comfy as possible.

Thanks. Yeah, it'll be a church and reception. I'd like to get a nice jacket or coat to wear so as not to be cold.

In that case then you could look for a smart coat but one that you will wear again. I would struggle with this as you won't want to hide your outfit too much and actually a jacket works better from that point of view.
How ever it really depends on the weather on the day what you are wearing for the wedding and how much you feel the cold.

Yes, I need to find stylish shoes that are reasonably comfortable and a stylish coat or jacket that I'll wear again. I'm hoping to wear a dress I already have as I don't think my budget would cover a new dress too.

Any recommendations on where to get a nice formal coat? Thanks so much for the comments so far.

I would start with M&S, Next and John Lewis as they all do different brands online and you can filter for the colours/styles you like.

I like brands like Hobbs Ted Baker and Reiss but I'm not a very adventurous shopper so you may get more ideas from others. It also depends on your budget and whether or not you find something in a sale.

I got some really comfortable mid height navy heels from John Lewis own brand recently which are really comfy and were only £35 in the sale.

I am also going to a wedding at the beginning of October but hoping to get away without needing a coat. The wedding is all in one place and a coat wouldn't be worn for long so I don't want to invest in a new one as I have already spent enough on my outfit.

@Mumski45
Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. You're very kind. I will have a look on those websites.

That's a good idea for the wedding you have - no need for a coat if it's all in one venue.
