DM Dupes

I really fancy getting a pair of DM Pascal boots, but my DD tells me the quality has gone downhill and they simply don’t last as long as they used to. I’m not bothered about the branding, I just like the style so wonder if anyone has seen any good dupes? I don’t fancy paying £150 for boots that’ll be falling apart in months.

@MacNTosh Are you anywhere near York? There is a DM outlet there Smile

Youcancallmeval · 19/09/2021 09:56

Are you very heavy on shoes? Unless things have changed, my most recently purchased docs are 3 yrs old and perfect.

I bought some DM dupes from Kick Footwear last year, they were about 50 quid and leather. They've worn really well and were super comfy out of the box. The equivalent style would have been about £200 from DM, and that's out of my range at the moment. The leather is decent quality and the soles are great.

Apart from the premium line, DMs are made in Asia now, and the quality has declined. Here's an interesting post from an independent shoe shop about all that:

I meant to add, Kick don't appear to stock them any more, sadly.

I've got DMs from 10 years ago that are still going strong and various pairs in between - they are all in good condition, no broken shoes or boots at all. I wear DMs most days and have not encountered any issues with the quality of them. The quality might not be what it was 25 years ago they are still a solid pair of boots to buy.

The link above was an interesting read as I was wondering why prices had got quite so high, thanks for sharing. I do think that the alternatives they offer aren't quite the same though, there were some interesting styles!!!

DD’s Docs are 7 years old and going strong, but we’re bought back when they were made in the UK. I’ll happily pay the full price, but not if they’ve gone the way that Hunters went.

Thanks for both the recommendation and the link, which made interesting reading. It backs what dd has been saying.

This. The 8-hole derby boots

I bought some DMs in the 90s and everyone said "oh the quality isn't like it used to be". I think people just like saying that about DMs Grin

KirstenBlest · 19/09/2021 17:02

Not me, @SingingSands.
The last pair of DMs I bought I didn't wear outside at all. Only indoors in a carpeted office and no more than about 10 times. After a few wears there was obvious wear to the soles, and I am not even 50kg. and am not heavy on my shoes. I sold them and switched to Solovairs.

PurpleDaisies · 19/09/2021 17:04

My pascals are still like new five years later.

jewel1968 · 19/09/2021 18:35

When I used to visit my cousins in the 90s wearing my faithfull DMs, my uncle used to berate my cousins for not wearing sensible shoes like me. I don't think he knew how on trend I was Grin. I keep thinking o need a pair and then I read threads like this

They actually look nicer than DMs and the leather looks softer! Thanks for the link!
