Help with swanky pants hotel wear!

We’re going to a very upmarket hotel in Greece in October. 5 star boutique/arty etc..

Not my usual place at all (usually camping/outdoors etc..) so I’m freaking out about clothes. Also the kids - teenage boys who wear trackies normally. I’ll get some shirts/polo shirts and smarter shorts for them.

What about me? Help! Normally I’m in denim cut offs and Havianas. October time trickier as will need a warmer layer in the evening.

We’ll be doing a couple of day trips, pool/beach, eat in the hotel/local town.

I’m happy to treat myself to a couple of new things. So excited and want to enjoy the planning part - it’s been over 2years since we’ve been overseas. Smile

Thank you!

Just normal holiday clothes. I've stayed in every type and standard of hotel, the clothing people wear is very much the same.

I think it really depends on how fancy the place is. Many people in extremely expensive / exclusive hotels are very well clad, however one persons swanky hotel is not anothers’.

They may have rules around long trousers for men in the restaurant but apart from that you should be ok.
Maybe some chino type shorts instead of denim and not too much sportswear

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 18/09/2021 15:00

OP, can you name the hotel, so we can be clearer?

Or even the island, in October the weather in Corfu will be different to Crete.

I would go normal holiday gear for this one. Looks relatively casual in the day, light dresses/ shorts etc and smart casual evening.

ablutiions · 18/09/2021 15:34

Wide leg trousers with an ordinary T-shirt or tank top, layered in the evening with a light cotton wrap/ scarf. Their can be worn with flip flops or sandals and looks chic. Chuck On a necklace /bracelet and your done.

A play suit is also an option. Accessorise as above.

Think linen trousers/ tops for the day if it’ll be very hot that you can dress up with statement necklaces. A nice pair of leather flat sandals and matching handbag.

For drinks out in the evenings, the pretty long dresses in fashion at the moment would work.

doorornottodoor · 18/09/2021 15:43

Fantastic thanks so much! I have a simple black linen sleeveless wide legged jumpsuit which will work. Maybe a ballet wrap top.. I will go back through my wardrobe with a fresh eye! I have so many clothes 😁

Search the hotel # on Instagram. You can lots of people’s holiday pictures and the outfits they’re wearing.

PartyStory · 18/09/2021 16:25

Unless you are in Asia, just normal casual clothes for fancy places. Rich people don’t dress up for these things as they aren’t special to them. Just make sure they are in good condition, well fitting, ironed, etc. Spend your money on things you would normally wear and you will be more comfortable and fit in better.

doorornottodoor · 18/09/2021 17:17

Thanks all. Don’t worry @PartyStory I wasn’t planning to wear a ballgownGrin. It was more how to achieve that understated lux look as I’m either very casual (currently in t shirt, shorts and Vans!) or very dressed up (party). I think natural fabrics, good hair and grooming will be the way to go. Quite fun to plan for an actual holiday again (the last few have been in the wilds of Scotland in Goretex Grin)

I understand @doorornottodoor, of course you can wear what you like but you fancy looking the part.
I’d go for flattering swimsuit or bikini with a lovely kaftan, Havanias , a pretty straw beach bag and a stylish sun hat for the beach/ pool.
For sightseeing; cool linen always looks good with comfy sandals and your best sunglasses. Evenings, take your favourite summer maxi or midi dresses.
Have a wonderful time

IamEarthymama · 18/09/2021 17:49

I love linen dresses when in Greece.
I wear them over swimwear in the day

Others longer length maybe in the evening with jewellery and dressier sandals. I like DMs.

I also wear linen trousers with vest tops and a cardigan or jacket if it's colder at night time.

Pinkcadillac · 18/09/2021 20:10

OP if you want to treat yourself take a look at Le Sirenuse Positano here. The dresses are ££ but so beautiful
