Advice on changing my style (small steps!)

Hi, I use the term 'style' very loosely!
I tend to wear jeans and v neck t-shirts all the time. I am so bored of it but I have really low confidence when it comes to clothes and so make very safe choices. I'm mid 40s, 5ft 1 and a size 12/14 so over the years I've found that my choices are restricted by what suits my height and shape. And almost anything I buy which isn't jeans/tshirt needs altering. Where do people like me buy their clothes?!
I have read some really sound advice on this board and I am asking for help with ideas on how to make braver choices but using very small steps away from my jeans/t-shirt/trainers combo.
I wfh home so my main daily outings are the school run, walking or food shopping/errands and the odd social eating out with friends. I want some variety of choice when I get dressed in the morning and also to be more 'well presented' without feeling over dressed. I have a mental block and just don't know where to start. Please help!
Thanks in advance!

@HappySpade

I've found the personal stylist Lizzie Edwards to have useful and realistic tips for mature women (such a dreadful term). She offers advice to really just elevate your personality through your clothing. She's on YouTube, Insta, her website. I really liked the book she wrote a few years ago too.
Thanks. I've started following her on Instagram.

OP if you are comfortable in t-shirts and jeans how about a more modern style of t-shirt, maybe a slogan one , a oversized blazer with this would look cool and maybe some trainers or chunky boots

I felt I was in a style rut too Only wearing Joules harbour tops and skinny jeans
I thought about how I wanted to look and have bought " popover blouses" and slim smock tops Shaped under bust but not flowing and I feel much less like a sack of potatoes
I've bought lots on eBay to try Ex fat face, brakeburn, white stuff( I don't work so limited budget)
I've stuck with skinny jeans but swapped to high rise as they fit better but you could obv swap to whatever suits you best
I also wear lipstick and perfume every day Go for it

I'm similar height and size. Usually I live in tunic dresses or any dresses really. I like the look with chunky boots or shoes but that's been my style for many years. I can only wear jeans if super comfortable. I've bought some wide legged Jersey type trousers from Marks and Spencers in their petite range but I still had to take them up 🤣 I quite like wearing them casually and can be dressed up. Also got into all in one jumpsuits this year though such a faff to use the loo!

Well, I've been shopping online and taken on board suggestions made on this thread. Thank you.
To start with I have ordered some different style jeans from Boden and M&S. I've also ordered some tunic style tops and jeggings. I will keep referring back to the thread as I go along.
@WingingItSince1973 I seriously considered buying a jumpsuit earlier in the summer because some of the designs were so nice. However, I think that might be a step for later down the line.
I still haven't decided whether to keep one of the pinafore dresses or not. I suspect as I have a doubt they will probably both be returned.

Sounds like you've made some solid purchases there. Just a shout out for Dorothy Perkins leggings as super comfortable. I get the tall version but they do petite too.

Thanks @BelleOfTheProvince. It's a start. Fingers crossed I end up keeping more items than I send back Smile although my bank account won't agree!

Men’s style shirts with the cuffs turned up and some stylish bracelets underneath.
