I need a decent foundation

I’m 50. In case that’s relevant. I want something that will last but not be cakey. Good coverage.

I’ve tried double wear and it’s too drying and cakey and hard to work with because it dries so quickly.

I’m lazy. I want to put it on in the morning and have it last.

Happy to spend if it a decent.

Have been using a L’Oréal one but it wears off in minutes!

Thanks :)

Double wear have released a 'waterfresh' and 'light' versions. I use the water fresh one and it is brilliant! So much thinner and a very dewy finish. Highly recommend for what you're after.

HalfpastFlea · 17/09/2021 07:08

I tend to find DW is cakey and drying if my skin is dehydrated, how's your skincare routine? Hyaluronic acid fixed my dehydrated skin, along with a creamy cleanser and moisturiser.

Geamhradh · 17/09/2021 07:10

N7 Hydraluminous. My holy grail.

SailorGeri · 17/09/2021 07:12

I'm following this. I'm 52. I'm currently using Laura Mercier tinted foundation, but it doesn't last all day. Equally I don't want anything too cakey.

Doggiedementia · 17/09/2021 07:12

I’m very lazy about skin care 😁 facial wash or double cleanse and then moisturise 😳.

I’ll try these recommendations - thanks!

Bobbi brown long lasting skin foundation is excellent. It's full coverage but looks very natural.

Medium coverage - IT CC cream & MAC water weight (if you have dry skin)

Light - Bare Minerals complexion rescue.

NowWhatUsernameShallIHave · 17/09/2021 09:11

Use a good hydrating serum, moisturiser and primer

ELDW is full coverage and matte

Try nars sheer glow

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 17/09/2021 09:24

Sort your skin care out and the DW will be fine. Apply with a buffing brush.

Cam2020 · 17/09/2021 09:31

Clinique Superbalance has been my favourite for around 20 years!

Gillybobs · 17/09/2021 09:49

Clinique beyond perfecting has the staying power of DW but a more dewy finish, highly recommend

Pigtailsandall · 17/09/2021 12:23

I use Nars tinted moisturiser daily, and a Bobbi Brown stick foundation when I need more coverage. Both are great. My skin is quite dry, in case that's relevant

mobear · 17/09/2021 12:23

NARS Sheer Glow is lovely.

towers14 · 17/09/2021 12:27

I use Rimmel Lasting Finish with a light sweep of translucent powder to finish. Last all day and stays on after a gym class too. I'm 52 works for me and my 19 yr old Dd also swears by it.

FflosFfantastig · 17/09/2021 20:30

I use No 7 essentially natural foundation, it's quite thin so if you use a brush you can push it around quite nicely without it setting and looking cakey before you've finished. I mix it with a few drops of liquid highlighter so it doesn't look completely matt. I am mid 40's and Matt powdery looking foundation looks hideous at my age. It gives good coverage but doesn't settle in the lines like others do.

DarlingCoffee · 18/09/2021 07:18

Another vote for No. 7 Hydraluminous (Boots)

Henlie · 18/09/2021 07:24

I use Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Foundation (spf 40) - it’s brilliant! Highly recommend. I’m in my 40s.

cricketmum84 · 18/09/2021 07:28

I've just discovered Il Makiage and love it. They have a matching service online. You apply with a brush which you get for free with your first order. It's the only one I've used with both even coverage and not cakey and it lasts all day too.

Their customer service is first class. My first shade was too dark so they sent me another one for free and told me to give the other away to a friend. The next was was perfect.

toastfiend · 18/09/2021 07:37

I use Fenty Beauty Hydrating foundation mixed with Glossier skin tint for day, and just the Fenty one for night. It gives a really good coverage without settling into fine lines, is easy to work with, and doesn't go cakey. IT Cosmetics CC cream is also good but I found it had to be applied very sparingly or it looked/felt really waxy. The EL Futurist Hydra Rescue is beautiful on initially but oxidates on my face and goes orange. If you don't have that problem it might be worth a try as very dewy, fresh finish but good coverage.

I disagree that the EL DW is all about skincare and if you have good skin it won't be a problem. I agree that good skin helps, but that's the same for any foundation, but I do have good skin, and I still find the DW drying, cakey and unflattering now I'm staring to get lines.

Chanel make the best foundations.

citygirl1961 · 18/09/2021 21:04

@FflosFantastif - which shade of essentially natural do you use? I use cool ivory. Which liquid highlighter do you use? I'm torn between this one and the hydroluminous.

Bobsyer · 18/09/2021 21:23

You might like the new Clinique one - serum something or another?

FflosFfantastig · 18/09/2021 22:23

@citygirl1961 No 7 foundation I use Calico for my skin tone and Max Factor Miracle Glow pro illuminator to mix in. Neither are very expensive and work well as a combination.

I used to use Lancome Air de Teinte foundation which was absolutely excellent but then I couldn't find it so I'm not sure if they stopped making it or changed it.

LightOfAThousandStars · 18/09/2021 23:18

Bareminerals Complexion Rescue is really good

Doggiedementia · 19/09/2021 02:21

Thank you everyone. I will try some of these and report back!

I swapped the ELDW for their Futurist foundation and I'm really pleased with it's coverage and dewy finish.
