Has anyone bought a lovely dress for a night out? Meal? Drinks? Need help

As no two women of 40 years old are the same as each other, perhaps it would be helpful if you could give a slightly more in depth description of your own current style, size, budget …?

Where do you usually shop?

Do you usually shop with preconceived ideas about what is suitable for exactly your age, or are you interested in dresses that might be worn by a woman of any age according to her tastes and preferences?

I don’t have any preconceived ideas - just wanted a wide point of view.

I don't think age has anything to do with it.
Depends on figure perhaps and tastes. I'm 40 and wouldn't ever think what do 40 year olds wear

I have a few going out dresses but my style isn't everyone's. (slightly weird!)

My best dinner out dress however is a plain black clingy shortish shine-y fine knit short sleeve dress that I wear loads for dinner. Different shoes/boots jewellery. Always feels good.
