Black or white trainers?

If you were buying a pair of trainers today just for general day to day wear, would you go for black or white? I'm trying to decide between white Stan Smiths and black Adidas Sleek. Think I prefer the white, but my head tells me that black will be more practical over the autumn / winter. I'm on mat leave so will be mostly wearing them with jeans and dungarees, not doing a lot of dressing up at the moment!

I think white looks very modern and black looks dated. But I’m no doubt being fickle!

I’ve just ordered a pair of white trainers with some black detailing. I feel like it’ll look better with denim than all black.

That's what I think too, I've never really liked the look of black trainers with blue jeans but I can't help thinking how dirty the white ones would get in the winter

I only wear my black trainers as ‘dressy’ trainers for going out.

@stickybear that’s true but if you buy leather they should just wipe down. Still a faff compared to the magic grime disappearing power of black though.

I have white Stan smiths. I love them and wear them with everything. Have had them about 18 months and have worn them in the winter. Not that I went out much last winter.

I prefer black trainers. I know white trainers are more fashionable, but I prefer the sleek look of black trainers.

Judging by what’s coming into my inbox, white trainers are over and black is the new black.

Black! I don't really like white trainers, they get mucky and I find them a bit try hard. They are too trainerish for me.

I also like navy trainers.

I've never really liked the look of black trainers with blue jeans, I never wear black trainers with blue denims. I do wear black trainers with navy dresses though and prefer navy trainers with blue jeans.

White for me! I like wearing my black trainers with black jeans or active wear, but white are more versatile whith blue denim and dresses etc

They've been in for at least 7 years!

I think they're still in for teens/early 20s (as long as they're the right trainers, of course..), but are now looking dated for anyone older.

@3luckystars just wear what you like and please yourself! Luckily I live in a part of the country where trends don’t arrive for years so I reckon I’ll look positively current in mine!

If you are on mat leave, and you will spend the autumn pushing a pram in the local park three times a day trying to get your baby to nap, I'd say be practical and buy black. Firstly, you wont mind stepping into a puddle so much, and secondly, no one will care. I don't mean to sound harsh but during mat leave most bets are off - be comfortable and cozy and warm and dry and don't worry about trends!

Hmm I'm still stuck. What do we think of off white? I've seen some lovely off white and green Stans which I think would look good with jeans. Just trying to decide if they would also work on the rare occasion that I wear a dress

personally in the winter black looks better

White and wipe them with a wet wipe when you take them off, every time.

I agree , white every time and just wipe them down when come in
My son used to do this regularly and his trainees were always immaculate

I also think white looks better but for winter months black more practical - can't you get both?

Black for winter, more practical...plain black stan smiths look good with jeans

having said that all my black trainers have white on them. That's my fave combo
