Smart but warm for winter zoom meetings

orinocococo · 15/09/2021 20:33

Hi

I've just started in a new job, with several zoom meetings a day, and the dress code is quite smart.

Last winter for my old employer I could get away with big fleeces and gloves but that's just not going to work this year!

I've seen some fleece blazers (Land's End I think?) and wondered about something like that - I could maybe get away with something like that as it's not in-person meetings.

Or has anyone got any other suggestions?

Thanks Smile

Thermal base layers (Uniqlo or M&S).

foobio · 15/09/2021 20:36

Thermal underwear! Helly Hansen do a really thin baselayer that I can wear under anything - both leggings and long sleeve top. Just watch out for the neckline showing - I'm tempted to hack at mine to get a lower neck. And I always have a pair of wooly thermal socks and a duvet under my desk!

Cashmere, if you can afford it! The warmest knitwear ever.

karmakameleon · 15/09/2021 20:42

I had sheepskin boots and an electric heated throw for my legs last year. Not noticeable during calls but sufficiently warm.

eurochick · 15/09/2021 20:43

Uniqlo jumpers.

KingdomScrolls · 15/09/2021 20:43

What on earth is a fleece blazer, I might need one

CallMeNutribullet · 15/09/2021 20:44

A nice wrap style cardigan?

angeltattoo · 15/09/2021 21:05

Electric blanket over you, can push it down to cover just your legs for a meeting.

daisylashes · 15/09/2021 22:40

Merino or cashmere jumper in a nice zoom friendly colour with a jacket over if jumper not smart enough. Don't wash it very much to keep it looking smart they can't smell you on zoom haha

Iggly · 15/09/2021 22:41

Hot cup of tea, blanket and hot water bottle. Plus put the heating on.

KeyboardWorriers · 15/09/2021 22:55

Electric blanket! I can just switch mIne on if I start getting cold.
Also big warm socks, vests, thick tights or trousers

I don’t have to look smart/corporate but I do like to look “nice”. Last winter I wore a lot of mohair and alpaca knits, Ugg boots (these are my slippers) with socks, and Uniqlo base layers. We live in an old granite house which can be chilly even with the heating on/take a while to warm up, and on really cold days I used a hot water bottle at the small of my back.

steppingout · 15/09/2021 23:43

I had a long stretch of wearing a nice wool jumper over base.layers and wrapping myself in a sleeping bag from the chest down....

greenlynx · 15/09/2021 23:45

@daisylashes
What colour would be a nice Zoom friendly colour?

cansu · 15/09/2021 23:47

Surely you are indoors?? Is it so cold in your building that you need thermals?

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 15/09/2021 23:55

@cansu I can’t speak for the OP but our house has really high ceilings so takes a while to warm up. Usually we would be out at work in the day, then the heating is timed to come on a good bit before we get home. We tried timing it to come on much earlier in the mornings but found it too warm for sleeping - the cat was thrilled though.

catfunk · 16/09/2021 07:22

Thermal base layer, cashmere roll neck, cos boiled wool long Cardigan are my go tos!

Palavah · 16/09/2021 07:32

Yep, it definitely feels cold at home if you're sitting at the same desk all day.

I wore a long - sleeved top, nice jumper with a necklace, warm bottom half - socks and slippers, blanket if needed
And buckets of tea.

slalomsuki · 16/09/2021 07:51

The Lands End fleece blazers are great and warm. I wore one to the office pre-lockdown and got comments so got a couple more for smart meetings online for last winter. I added a scarf to the neck and a blanket over my knees when really cold.

CMOTDibbler · 16/09/2021 07:52

I have a couple of Lands End fleece blazers, and they are brilliant. You can't tell the difference on camera from a normal jacket, and I usually wear a bright smart scarf as well. Below the desk, fake uggs and I'm not beyond my Lakeland heated blanket going on when I have back to back meetings so don't move
