Button for vintage coat

Hi, bit of a weird one. Had the good luck to pick up a vintage acquasctum trench (1950's) in a charity shop for a tenner last year but somehow I've managed to lose a button!

Does anybody please have any suggestions as to where I can source a replacement button? It's either that or replace all the buttons & I don't want to ruin the look of the coat.

Any suggestions appreciated.

eBay? Search vintage buttons or 1970s buttons or whatever era it is from? If you can't find a match I'd find buttons I liked and replace them all - just make sure they are the same size so they fit the button holes.

sylbunny · 14/09/2021 21:43

Oh sorry lol ... search 1950s buttons. Can't read!

Trumpton · 15/09/2021 06:35

Can you post a picture of the button with a ruler for size please. I have some vintage buttons I can mooch through for you.

I have a load of vintage buttons I will take some photos to see if one will suit. I bought them in a car boot so I can send you one for free x

What colour is the coat

mrssmiling · 15/09/2021 09:03

What a great find! 😉 If you search ‘replacement Aquascutum button’ on EBay some do come up. It might be worth setting up an ongoing search if those aren’t right?
Etsy is also a good source of vintage buttons.
Could you post a picture of the coat with diameter of button? You never know - someone might have a spare!

Button box here too!
Even an imperfect match would work if you put it at the bottom

Lots of people save buttons. I have a few, but not Aquascutum.
Try the Crafts threads, and also try auction sites, and freebie sites in your area.

I also have a vast button collection and am happy to check later!

SoupDragon · 20/09/2021 08:45

If you don't find one, I would move the bottom button up to replace the missing one. The bottoms one won't be as noticeable if it is missing.

SoupDragon · 22/09/2021 11:16

I don't have an exact match. These are all 2.5 - 3.2cm
