I really hate coats.. ! I think that a good coat could elevate an outfit but a bad one ruin.
I saw a lovely lk bennet one but it was nearly 700 .. but lovely. Saw one in boden.. £ 220 , with hood, looked great.. but only 20% wool and reviews questioned quality!
Being only 5 foot long coats are just so so long , i look like a darleck! .
For the last.3 years I have worn seasalt coats.. navy ,practical.. yearn for something lovely and not a raincoat.
Saw short duffle in toast at £325.. may save for that... but would so appriciate any suggestions...? My fave coat, which is a vintage cream alpaca and mohair 1960s style coat has finally given up after years of joyful wearing and i.cant find another. Dream coat.. shove it on , looks stylish ! Thanks !

Whistles have some double faced wool coats, or wool mix with > 60% wool, for not stupid money but the styles aren’t very fitted so not sure how they would look on someone petite?

Iamthewombat · 14/09/2021 19:32

Or this in Jigsaw

Wool, and you can normally pick up a discount code.

I bought a wool trench coat from Jaeger....... it was £360 in the outlet and it's my favourite ever purchase. It's soft, very classic and hopefully won't date.

goose1964 · 14/09/2021 20:33

If you're a size 14 and don't mind a high wool content mix the this is a bargain www.houseoffraser.co.uk/brand/escada/outerwear-coat-as5968#colcode=AS596800

Hi
Have you thought about having a coat made? You can get some really great vintage patterns off ebay and a local tailor would be able to make to your exact size if your willing to pay decent money .

bendmeoverbackwards · 22/09/2021 20:54

Not sure if it’s what you’re looking for but Primark have a lovely wool coat this year for £23! Comes in grey, bright red, oatmeal or navy. I tried it on recently, it’s very good quality for the money.

TheGirlInTheGreenDress · 22/09/2021 20:59

@AnnieSnap that is GORGEOUS and exactly what I’ve been looking for.

MilduraS · 22/09/2021 21:03

I was about to recommend the Hobbs coat @AnnieSnap suggested. It comes in petite sizes too.

KiwiDramaQueen · 22/09/2021 21:33

House of Foxy has a couple of gorgeous vintage style coats with nipped waists. Not cheap but less pricey than some of the others you’re looking at.

Glad to be of service 🙂

TheGirlInTheGreenDress · 23/09/2021 07:30

@AnnieSnap :-)

Can I ask a daft question - the coat is 64% wool, 30% polyamide, 6% cashmere. If I wear it in the rain will I ruin it? I’ve never spent this much on a coat before and am worried about what might happen if I get caught in the rain!

MrsPear · 23/09/2021 11:03

Nope you won’t ruin it but you need to be able to hang it when get in - get a sturdy wooden hanger - and then leave it to dry somewhere where air can circulate. Wool coats only get musty if they are hung on a hook and left. Brush regularly (clothes brush) and wash at the end of season at dry cleaners. If it’s a dry day and not wearing leave it outside to air. Wool has been used for 100s of years for clothing - our sheep and wool production was what made the country wealthy first.

I see where you are coming from, but no, wool and cashmere coats are fine in rain/snow etc. If they weren’t, they wouldn’t be ‘fit for purpose’ and the retailers would be giving out a fortune in refunds.

AnnieSnap · 23/09/2021 13:19

I must say, although everything @MrsPear said is sensible, I have never done all of that with my wool coats over the years. I have always hung them on a hanger, rather than a hook, but none of the other stuff and I have only had them dry cleaned every few years (it’s bad for the environment). They (several) have all remained looking and feeling great.

beguilingeyes · 23/09/2021 16:08

Reiss do some nice coats, also Hobbs. I bought a stunning navy vaguely miltary style coat from Damsel In A Dress a couple of years ago and I've lost an enormous amount of weight so it hangs off me. Gutted
