Brands that sell coats for v cold conditions?

I’m hoping to go to Canada for a few weeks this winter (covid restrictions permitting…) to visit family. I’ll also be going to Scotland to visit other family over Christmas. So the winter is looking pretty cold for me!

I have winter coats that work for London but nothing that’ll be warm enough for Canada.
Ive been looking and I’ve seen some which look warm but its hard to tell whether they’ll be warm enough…. Ideally something that’s ok down to -20C.

I think I need to look at specialist brands for cold weather/maybe Scandi brands etc.

Ideally I’d like it to be:

  • not technical looking - I don’t need it for hiking or anything, but it does need to be very warm
-not down (ethical reasons)

Any brand suggestions for me to look for?

Thank you!

Didriksons, Rohan and 66° North all served me well in Iceland. Uniqlo heattech base layers are great. Fjallraven also very good - their trapper hat was a god send. Sealskinz waterproof mittens and socks and I loved my Sorel boots - waterproof and grippy (though I also used yak-trax for icy surfaces). Layering is key and it's the wind that really chills to the bone! Hope you have a fantastic time - I love Canada!

Lots of that stuff I've mentioned is £££ but I've picked up great very lightly used items from eBay.

The Equetech Inferno is heated, but may be a bit equestrian looking...

Columbia - warmest coat I ever had , omni technology I think it’s called. A shiny finish on the inside.

@bellsbuss

Canada Goose and remove the fur trim ? You will not find a warmer coat
Why would the OP want to give money to a non-ethical company that uses fur and down? Bizarre suggestion when she's clearly stated ethics are important

I bought a coat in Vancouver at Eddie Bauer. Very useful in Sun Peaks - over warm in the UK but I’d rather be on the warm side than vice versa.

I have this from Fjallraven, if you hunt around you can get it at least £100 less than RRP. It's properly warm and cosy.

Canada Goose coats are extremely warm.but not waterproof They are also really expensive! . Maybe you’d be Best Buy a coat in Canada though as it’s so cold there they probably have a lot of options.

I have a fabulous coat from Tog 24, covers my bum and has seen me through 3 pretty cold Scottish winters.
