Dress or a suit for imminent wedding?

PersephoneJames · 13/09/2021 14:30

I'm not buying anything new, so I was wondering which of these two outfits would be most suitable for a wedding in a few weeks. I've always worn dresses but I was wondering whether the suit might be a bit fresher? I'm early 30s, size 12, and have just dropped 3 dress sizes and have sort of forgotten how to dress but I also really really want to look awesome after miserably wearing joggers for two years! (both of these are castoffs from my mate)

Sorry for the awful photoshopping but I think that dress is too old for me to find a stock photo!!

The suit:
this suit with a cream silk camisole top

Which do you prefer? Thank you!

I prefer the suit

givinglessfucksdaily · 13/09/2021 14:56

The suit is a bit more "unique "
I like both ..
Which one makes you feel more fabulous?

Silverstreaks · 13/09/2021 16:27

The suit is great. Wear what makes you feel confident and happy.

Onlinedilema · 13/09/2021 16:37

The suit us very different.
The dress doesn't seem posh enough for a wedding.
Where is the wedding at?
Is it a low key event?

Jerseygirl12 · 13/09/2021 16:38

Is the dress black?

GemmaRuby · 13/09/2021 16:39

Love the suit

GardenGloveless · 13/09/2021 16:40

Wear whatever makes you feel good but I do love the suit! It looks fabulous!

Dadvdtret · 13/09/2021 16:54

I am loving the suit, but nothing makes you feel more fab than a glam dress. I wish I could say both!!

Palavah · 13/09/2021 16:57

The suit looks awesome. Unless you are flat-chested I would wear quite a low necked camisole

PersephoneJames · 13/09/2021 17:50

They are both navy and white. I do feel fabulous in both but after my weight loss I feel great in everything!

The wedding is an english country garden marquee type thing, quite a young crowd. I worried the suit was too “city” for that?

I’m glad you love the suit, my grandad was shocked at the thought! I’m surprised the dress doesn’t seem posh enough, it’s from whistles wedding range but a few years back.

Yes, lovely. Are you going to wear a headband or headpiece to balance the suit?
Palavah · 13/09/2021 18:50

Suit not at all too city.

PersephoneJames · 13/09/2021 20:10

Oh I hadn’t thought. I don’t usually do anything with my hair. I have a round face. Do you have any ideas? Something pale pink to go with the camisole? I wondered about a white camisole to pick out the flowers in the suit but maybe it’d look like underwear..

OP posts:
Palavah · 13/09/2021 20:15

White camisole would be fine! But pink also would work.

What's your hair like? You could do something really simple, jewelled alice band or similar. You don't need anything big because the suit makes a statement.

If you don't feel like it then it won't be a glaring omission.

PersephoneJames · 13/09/2021 20:20

I do have nude strappy Jimmy choo sandals!

PersephoneJames · 13/09/2021 20:22

An Alice band would be nice. I could reuse my own bridal one which was delicate and sparkly flowers. My hairs sort of shoulder length straight highlighted.. thank you so much for talking this through with me!

I like the suit. The dress is ok-its just nothing standout. But it does suit your figure beautifully and your décolletage looks gorge.

Agree with sth soft and pretty in hair to soften and make a nice contrast to the suit.

That's a lovely idea
Kite22 · 13/09/2021 22:09

Well, I'm surprised by the answers.
The suit doesn't look at all appropriate for a wedding to me.
I would be raising my eyebrows and hoiking my judgy pants right up if someone turned up at a wedding in that.

PersephoneJames · 14/09/2021 06:43

No that’s fine @Kite22 I asked for opinions!

In what way do you think it isn’t suitable? The fabric is a silky brocade and the pattern is florals, it’s well tailored.. is it just the idea of a suit rather than a dress? My grandad muttered something about ladies and trousers!

TTCAbroad · 14/09/2021 07:02

Go for the suit! In the past 4ish years I’ve seen a few women (all low 30’s and younger) wearing suits at weddings and they all looked so chic. You’ve already mentioned that it’s well tailored which is a must and the fabric looks appropriately formal. PP’s suggestions re: soft hair and Alice bands seem on point as well.

grannyjacob · 14/09/2021 07:17

If I saw somebody wearing that suit at a wedding, I’d be very jealous. It’s lovely and totally suitable. Enjoy whichever you decide to wear.
