Make up overhaul

For the first time ever I've binned my out of date makeup. Problem is, I now have no make-up. I don't want a lot but would like some for special days, was wondering if anyone can recommend.

(Preferably all vegan and cruelty free please)

I realise that it's probably out of fashion but a really dewy foundation. I have dry skin so light and moisturising would be good. Was considering Charlotte Tilbury but not sure if it's worth it.

Cream eyeshadow. I love pixi and Charlotte tibury. Wondering if there are any files.

A 'brown neutral' eyeshadow palette with a bit of sparkle.

Setting spray for a dewy finish.

Red understated lip stain. I don't get on with balm or lipstick.

A really voluminous fake lash and curl mascara. Cursed with the eyelashes of an unglamorous reptile.

Highlighting/bronzer that suits my very pale skin and doesn't make me look 12.

Any other favourites.

Thanks 😊👍

Take a look at Tarte, vegan and cruelty free, get on their mailing list as they have plenty of members offers and discounts.
I'm very pale and their concealers/foundations easily go pale enough for me.
I love the Shape Tape concealer, they do a dewy foundation, setting spray and I use their Lash Paint Mascara which is great for my post-menopausal lashes. They also have some great eyeshadow palettes.

Thanks. Can I be random and ask what the make up feels like? I've got so used to not wearing any I'm afraid I am rather picky now!

The Barry M mist and fix setting spray with a dewy finish is surprisingly good (and I have tried some really pricey setting sprays). I believe Barry M is a vegan brand. I would recommend Rimmel Lasting Radiance foundation, better than CT and in fact every foundation I've ever tried, and I have drier skin but I don't know if it's vegan.

BelleOfTheProvince · 12/09/2021 20:09

Thanks for the Barry M tip. I'd certainly like to keep it lower budget as long as that's not a false economy.
Unfortunately Rimmel test on animals so it's a no go for me I am afraid. Hopefully I'll find something similar. I used to quite like the elf range I don't know if they have anything good.
A lot of revolution is vegan. Has anyone got any of their stuff?

You should look into Perricone MD as it ticks a few boxes. Cruelty free and most of it is vegan, I use their "no foundation foundation" and others in the no make up range. I have freckles so a thick foundation looks stupid on me, this I would say is one step up from a BB or CC cream and is quite dewy, gives you a glow. Not cheap but lasts ages. I don't rate the mascara but the foundation, blusher, and eye primer are brilliant

Goingbackto5oh5 · 12/09/2021 20:22

OP if you're looking to get something from Revolution they have the conceal and hydrate foundation, although it's medium to full coverage. They do have a CC cream that comes in a good variety of shades, even found one for me and I'm shade 12.5 in their foundation :)
For mascara I use the L'Oréal Voluminous first and while it's still wet I use the Maybelline Lash Sensational to give it more of a curl.

This does sound like what I am after. I'd also be happy with a medium coverage as long as I didn't lose the dewy glow.
God I'm picky!

Glossier!

Caroline Hirons says there's a time for matte skin, and it's when you're dead. I go by this! Glowy and dewy all the way.

MaverickDanger · 12/09/2021 20:47

Absolutely hands down Glossier.

It’s the epitome of glowy. I like that it makes me look finished and healthy but still understated. I’ve hardly worn make up for 20 months and don’t want it to feel heavy or cakey.

I often forget that I’m wearing make up when I’ve got Glossier on.

I treated myself to some glossier stuff. Very excited for it to get here.
I also got a couple of mascaras, revolution false lash and NYC curling one.
NYC dewy setting spray. Elf halo powder and cream eyeshadow (cheaper than pixi so I hope it is good)
I'm still in the market for a cream or liquid highlighter that doesn't look too young as I'm 30+ if anyone knows a good one?

You sound like me, OP, although I have yet to actually chuck out the old stuff.

Was looking at some Tropic stuff online, but don't know if it's any good or worth the money. Not expensive, sort of mid-range price.

Going to look at some of the recommendations you've had here, as I'm also pale.

BelleOfTheProvince · 13/09/2021 14:29

First run of mascara for those interested:
On the rise NYC is slightly more lifted and so make my pathetic eyelashes have a bit more substance.
The faux lash effect revolution is very so so. Bit disappointing but possibly can be built up in conjunction with the NYC.

@BelleOfTheProvince

By the way QVC UK sell Tarte make up and often have deals on it. Plus you can send it back if you don't like it! I got a recent deal which had a number of brownish tones (shadows) they were powder not cream but felt nice on. I did not rate the mascara that came with it but that is because I prefer waterproof and on a rainy day I was a dead ringer for Alice Cooper!!!

Deathraystare · 15/09/2021 11:00

@BelleOfTheProvince

Here is the latest deal

@BelleOfTheProvince

See in my rush to order I didn't hear them say water resistant as opposed to waterproof. There is a difference!

BelleOfTheProvince · 16/09/2021 13:58

My glossier stuff arrived in good time.
It's nice. A very natural finish, you can see my freckles through it. In a good way.
subtly dewy. However, I have a red nose so felt I might want a bit more coverage at times so I bought bare faced minerals SPF 25 foundation stick. It's meant to be dewy but buildable so we shall see. Will report back when I have given it a whirl.

Hi all, just a little update.

I have used the bare faced minerals SPF 25 foundation stick for a while now. It goes on nicely (I use just fingers because I am old school)
It is nice and dewy but does a reasonable job of covering my red patches. Combined with the glossy serum and foundation I have achieved a dewy look.
Thanks for the recommendations. Grin
