How to make this work in winter!

I love the outfit in the photo (from Brora).
I can totally see me swishing around like this.

Usually in winter I wind up in leggings a lot because I sometimes need wellies or sturdy boots. But I am so so tired of bloody leggings. Then there's my mid length raincoat, so I guess I dress a bit rural a lot of the time as im out walking a lot in rain, etc.

So how would this transition well beyond autumn?
How are you lot wearing your floppy trousers this winter?
Could an outfit like this be adapted for dog walking and traipsing to the co-op?

Any tips?

Thermal leggings the same colour as the trousers underneath might work?

Pheasantlysurprised · 12/09/2021 17:37

Could do. Was also thinking aren't trousers this wide almost like wearing a long skirt? I can't see how wellies would work, haha.

In my dreams I am swooshing around in a long cardi or wool coat with luxurious trousers and a cashmere slouchy jumper. But then the wind and slanted rain comes along...

that IS a winter outfit already...just stick your wellies on for dog walking...maybe a decent "slim fit " pair. I put sheepskin insoles in a pair of navy joules ones. LOVE that outfit OP :)

thanks!
but don't the wellies look mad wit the wide trousers?

Just tuck into your wellies - think of old fashioned blouson riding pants

Kanaloa · 13/09/2021 06:21

I would just tuck into boots. I would worry with a mid length coat plus long cropped trousers and the shawl it would look a bit bag lady-ish so not sure what I’d go for coat wise.

Kanaloa · 13/09/2021 06:21

Wide cropped trousers sorry.

sarahc336 · 13/09/2021 06:31

Just tuck the trousers into wellies, it'll be fine 😃

I love the top half! Any suggestions where I can get a jumper like that but a bit more affordable....
I have plenty of skinny fit striped long sleeve tops, so just need the top layer!

Youcancallmeval · 13/09/2021 06:34

If I wasn't seeing anyone, I'd probably be inclined to get some long socks and tuck the trousers in to keep them down, as otherwise they will possibly just flap their way out of boots.

Pheasantlysurprised · 13/09/2021 12:27

I maybe need some less flappy cords. If anyone knows of a pair with mid rise I would be eternally grateful!

As for the poncho take a look at white stuff for a somewhat less expensive alternative.

Thinking back to the early 2000s you need a really chunky slightly platformed ankle boot to cope with snow/wetter weather. I still have the ones I used to take with me to wear apres ski when skiing. Otherwise bicycle clips and wellies!Grin

I don't think floppy trousers are practical in windy/wet weather. You could replace with moleskin or cord trousers in the same berry colour, also soft and confortable but with a narrow leg
