How can I get a wardrobe I love?

How can I get a wardrobe full of clothes that I love? I'm early 40's, 5'7 size 14 and have a reasonable budget for clothes but never end up with clothes I love. I live in jeans but how can I elevate them - is it the clothes or the grooming - or both?

I think it’s both, but the hardest part is buying only what you need to make a great wardrobe; I think it’s very easy to get carried away and buy stuff that isn’t in line with the look you want, won’t get worn, for events you’ll never go to etc etc. I’d start by finding a style that you love- Instagram or Pinterest pics for example of outfits or celebs whose style you like and think you would wear. Then I’d go through your wardrobe and see what you have that you can use to build those looks; and then buy some key pieces to pull it all together. If you need to Chuck stuff out, be ruthless! Xo

The advice I was given was to only buy something if you absolutely love it.

I spent today going through my wardrobe and have two full bin liners of clothes, shoes and boots to give to charity. You do have to be ruthless.

Buy well, buy slowly, buy fashionably.

So if you have a reasonable budget, make sure you are spending it on good chunks not bits here and there.

You don’t need to spend all at once. Go slower if it means buying better.

Care about fashion, even if you are never going to wear a cutout dress with platform boots. Once you start to engage with what’s fashionable, you will gravitate to staying current and will style your clothes with ideas you pick up. Subscribe to WhoWhatWear etc.
