Clever buys for an instant wardrobe update?

At the beginning of the summer, I accidentally bought 2 things which completely changed my wardrobe - a pair of white Nike trainers and some high waisted denim shorts.

Suddenly, every boring, dated T shirt I owned looked amazingly on trend tucked into my shorts.

And every crappy pair of shorts / dress / trousers looked bang up to date with my jazzy new trainers on!

What should I buy this winter that will have the same magic effect on my very ancient clothes?!!?

I've got a fabulous old Ted Baker waistcoat, with a silky floral back. Must dig it out again!

I already have a men's style pinstripe waistcoat which I used to wear with a vintage fob watch. Definitely ready to get that out again.
